To my horror, Lisa was able to listen over the phone to what happened to me that night. I didn't know she stayed on the line when I said I was feeling dizzy. I was terrified to realize that she saw such a horrifying episode in my pathetic life. But she did not judge me. She did not go away; instead, she stayed even closer. She comforted me. She helped me fight against my abuser in court. My dad was so ashamed even to make himself known. He supported me in my fight, but he remained in the shadow, in fear that he might not be of help but ruin things even further.
