Artemis was never one to beat around the bush. She always wanted to know everything from the get-go, whether by force or play of words.
Then again, she was still too little to understand everything going on.
She was only two years old after all. Although she was the daughter of the ruler of the skies, she still needed time to mature like any other newborn child.
So she skipped across the plain towards the forest, humming a beat, wanting to explore the world.
How she found herself before a hydra, the Lernaean to be exact, was something she honestly should have seen coming.
As she prepared to take down the beast, three purple translucent arrows struck through all of its heads faster than the speed of thought.
Drawn back for a second, she looked up to see the figure who had shot the arrows and she found herself mystified by the figure's looks.
He appeared to wear a white tunic with a black robe of some sorts that covered his entire body, including his arms and legs. From the hip towards his feet did the robe gradually start to spring out, increasing in radius from his feet.
She found herself staring at the black bow, outlined by the red tinge of its aura. She could tell by the luminescence and the saturation that both the bow and the arrows that struck the hydra were made of pure energy. She could see a body-length sword, wrapped in a white cloth, on the figure's back, massive compared to Greek ones. There was also a blade hanging off his hip, its width as wide as her hand. Its edges clearly told her that the swords were meant for slashing motions.
Hypnotized by the figure's strange looks, she did not hear the massive body of the hydra start to fall on her.
She found herself confused when she suddenly was not on her feet and was instead wrapped around the figure's body, his left arm sheltering her in a protective gesture. She looked out as the hydra's corpse finally fell down, giving off a large thud as it smacked onto the ground.
When it was clear that the hydra was dead, the figure looked down onto her, his eyes scanning her for any injury. Meanwhile, Artemis looked up at her savior's head, blinking to make sure that what she saw was correct, as no known person had hair as orange as this person did.
Being as straightforward as ever, she spoke the one thing on her mind.
"You have orange hair."
A moment passed. Her rescuer looked at her. She looked back. They both stared at each other. Then the figure started to scowl.
"That's all you have to say? No, thank you or anything?"
Artemis blinked. She then returned Ichigo's gesture.
"Hey! I didn't need your help! I could've taken care of that hydra by myself!"
The figure snorted, his eyes giving her a wordless 'are you serious', although there was a tinge of mirth as well.
"Yeah sure, midget. Like that look on your face wasn't any indication."
Artemis huffed, partly for being pointed out like that and partly for being called a midget. It wasn't her fault she was this short, dammit!
"Hey, don't call me a midget! I'm pretty tall for my age!"
"Still look like a midget to me!"
"Oh geez, I'm sorry for being only a couple years old!"
"You act as if you're a grown-up that is slowly going back to being an idiot, midget."
Artemis sulked. This man was driving her nerves! She was reminded of her stupid brother that she had, Apollo.
The man looked at her, a faint grin on his face.
"What's your name?"
Artemis looked at him, contemplating whether he could be trusted despite having 'saved' her from the hydra. She definitely was not factoring in that warmth from his protective hug. Nope, not at all.
"Artemis."
The figure smiled back in amusement.
"Ichigo."
