Louisa stood before the looming garden gates, their wrought iron spikes crowned with twisted vines and leaves. For a moment, doubt crept into her mind, making her wonder if jumping the fence was worth the risk. But she knew what lay beyond those gates - freedom. Away from the judgmental eyes of Rochester and the snide remarks of Eloise, she could reclaim her old life and be reunited with her family. However, as much as she longed for that freedom, her heart ached at the thought of leaving Rochester behind. She had loved him first and, in her desperation, had lost him. Looking back, she wished she could undo the very beginning of their tumultuous relationship, starting from the rainy day when she first met him.
