Chapitre 27: Soviets - 2
Howard was in bad condition and I asked both Icarus and Val to bring him back to base immediately. Both had to fly slow carrying him on a broken metal piece from the tank like a stretcher maintaining a steady pace. Hank had to wait for hope and others to rescue him. Fortunately, it appears to be a solo attack as there was no other soldier and backup for this guy.
Knights did a sweep of the area twice but came up empty and then one team of knights was then sent after this guy's 'family' and another made their way to the 'SHIELD' facility.
I offer Bradley and Fury to come to base as I was going to give them a tour anyway and it will help in building trust between us more.
------40 minutes later-----
"How is Howard?" I asked after reaching the base. A team of medics were working on him and Martha was monitoring his vitals. But I needed to know the opinion of professionals than data to understand his situation better.
"He was shot twice but the bullets missed any of the major organs. There was a lot of bleeding but right now, he is stable and will live but his brain took a hit." replied our chief surgeon.
"We need someone who specialises in neuro to understand better but my guess, looking at his skull damage and scans, his frontal lobe has been damaged. The frontal lobe basically controls human speech, smell, decision-making and movement abilities and this part of the brain is often the most damaged part in an accident. So, how far the damage is and to what extent, we can only understand once he wakes up.
The good news is, other parts of the brain are mostly fine so the damage to a large extent will be minimised." He said his final analysis.
I have no idea about medicine and knowledge about human biology is not my speciality. I needed someone expert in neuro. Hence I ordered Martha to look for the famous neurosurgeon and researchers in brain specialisation.
A few minutes later Hank came back with Hope, Steve and Bucky. I told them about Howard's condition while Hank was taken to the medical room. He mostly has broken ribs and fractures in his thighs and shoulder area but there was no life-threatening injury.
"Hank, how did this happen? I mean did your travel plan leak or something?" I asked Hank after doctors have gave him pain killers and were bandaging him. The leading doctor was giving me a stink eye at this point but this guy is ant-man. He had gone through worse. I needed the know the story more than caring for a few broken ribs.
"No one leaked anything. We got off the plane safely and took my car. I keep a few extra cars near the airstrip. And this Red Captain Russia, was just out there sitting on top of one of my cars. He was just drinking and smoking and we guessed he was a sad mental guy who was drinking to drown his sorrows in his stupid copycat suit. Howard just asked him to get off the car.
The Russain said he can crush us like bugs if we don't ask nicely. Howard got angry and threw his weight around. He said a few things and then said 'he is Howard Stark and if you know his name, you should run before he throws his sorry Russian ass in some prison off the books'.
Long story short Phil, we ended up getting almost beaten to death by a soviet super-soldier because Howard couldn't control his mouth."
Listening to Hank, it feels like a bar fight between two men with huge egos and somehow one of them was a super-soldier and another Howard stark. They just met, talked back to each other, this guy disappears for a while when they get in the car and start to drive, he starts firing on their car.
Hank, the one driving the car pulled the brakes when Howard got hit and somehow managed to shoot this guy back. Then our 'Red Guardian' went on full rampage mode and Hank had to use his keychain Tank to hide and save their lives. Wow.
I knew Tony had a big mouth problem but his father too. The Starks really have some issues. Seriously, I feel sorry for Hank. He went to bring Howard back and almost got killed because of his stinky mouth.
Me, Fury and others are just looking at Hank and everyone is now trying to hold their laughter. This is funny, stupid and seriously an accident of epic proportions. Getting ass kicked in a bar fight is still a way better deal than this one.
Who the hell decided to fight a ripped Russian man who is more than 6 feet tall and drunk? These guys live with bears and can fight them when they are high! Fucking stupid!
"Sir, the knights have reached Red Guardian's family and they basically moved into a motel. No communications with anyone and it seems they are trying to hide." Martha just informed me in my earpiece.
"Bring them to the base." I ordered Martha. Hank needed rest so I took away our guests while Hope stayed with him.
Bucky, Steve, Fury and Bradley all came with me to the operations room. Looking at the crowd I just gave them all the information I had till now
"This is just an accident where Howards and Hank were ambushed by a Soviet agent who was hardly in his right mind. One drunk Super Solider and One chatty Howard collided hence this result. But there are two main things.
1) These are soviet spies on US soil.
2) we have a HYDRA base doing research on brain control.
I had already asked Martha to check all the researchers currently there and we shall have a falcon bomber squad near that facility. A ground team of knights is also on the way. My best guess is this research facility, whatever they were actually doing, is quite attractive to soviets. They sent a small team of this 'Red guardian' with a woman and kids to get what they needed."
Fury was the one thinking deeply while others only looked at me. They were hoping I will tell them the next steps but Fury if I am correct, is still troubled by the news of HYDRA.
"Fury, the information about HYDRA after the war is with Martha. You should go through it. Mr. Isiah Bradley, there are still a few soldiers here at the base who are waiting to meet you personally. I think you should not make them wait anymore. Commander Steve and Bucky, I think you should give them a tour and help them answer any questions. We have time till the team bringing the family will reach here and you can join during questioning."
I gave them space and left them alone. I need time to find a neuro expert and while I do have a facility filled with such people, they are loyal and working for HYDRA. Leaving them with a scalpel inside Howard's brain is not something I am comfortable with.
