Another birthday, another year. Today was again his tenth birthday. God, he hated when people would treat him like a kid. He died as an adult man in his 40's in his last life and he could never fit into the role of a small child. The guests were still coming in and he was also waiting for a special person today. His Idol and his rival, as per his father that is, Tony Stark and his family.
He is also well aware of their families' rivalries now. It all started when his grandpa, Robert Phillip fell in love with a certain lady. They called her American rose. They were close, as per his father, until Howard Stark Sr. once charmed her to his bed. The next morning, there were pictures of her coming from his house in the early morning and it was called the "walk of shame by the wilted rose".
Quite a famous incident really and it became a thorn in both families since then. In the end, that woman disappeared one day and his grandpa married his grandma. It would have ended in that generation had not Howard stark once in college, tried to flirt with mother Regina and his dad found them. Howard stark practically shouted Regina should try a real man once and a few minutes later Mark's fist fell on his jaw. So, the rivalry continued.
Well trying to keep these thoughts away from his mind, Ryan was waiting. He was standing near the door with his father to welcome the coming guests.
"Ryan come here. I want you to meet these Guests. This is Mr and Mrs McCall and this sweet little lady is Meredith."
"I have seen your pictures in the newspaper Mr Creighton McCall and I have to say you share the same feelings toward Starks as my father."
"Boy, if you knew Howard, you won't be surprised. He is a man with no honour and what he did to his own brother was quite frankly the most chilling thing I have seen. Oh! Edward was really cheated. Stay away from Starks and you shall live in peace boy. Mark my words."
After a few minutes, Ryan felt fear. Yes, deep fear. Why? He suddenly remembered in Marvel fandom he had read about McCall and Howard's stark rivalry. Howard stark had said Creighton was his true enemy and in some comic book issues, it was revealed that this Creighton was possessed by a demon from Japan and later there was so much drama.
Also, Edward Stark committed suicide in comics because Howard stark bought the family shares from him before the Starks share became a gold mine. How can this movie world clash with the comic world? Is this his butterfly effect? No. he is overthinking things. Brain stop. Brain stop. While he tried to calm his brain, Meredith McCall suddenly called to him.
"Father, I think this is not the place to say these things. Look our birthday boy is in deep thinking mode and has forgotten that he is standing in my presence. A proper gentleman should have invited me in and maybe offered me to show around his house or something."
"Apologies my lady, please come inside. Please Mr & Mrs McCall come. The party will start in minutes."
After what felt like an eternity, Ryan finally saw the final guests and his idol - Tony fucking Stark.
"Welcome, Howard. It's been a long time. Maria, you look exceptionally beautiful today! Let's head inside. I think there won't be any guests coming now. After all, it's already pretty late." Mark invited Howard and his family in the most polite manner Ryan could possibly imagine. Oh boy!
"Well, you know Mark, the traffic was pretty bad and the show stoppers always come in the end," replied Howard with his signature smile.
"Of course, Howard, of course," Mark replied and then looked at Ryan, "Well this is my boy Ryan Phillip and before more chatting, he needs to cut his cake and start the party formally."
After Ryan cut the cake and he finally found free time, he made his way towards Tony.
"Hello, it seems you are pretty bored. Why? Is there something that you need Tony?" Ryan asked Tony after he found him alone in a corner.
"Well, the party is boring Ryan. Seriously, inflatable jumper castle? Was it the best you could think of? You can come to my birthday next time and I will show you how to throw parties," replied Tony without any politeness in his words.
"Well, I would sure try. You know having a jumper castle for 10 years old kid is not a bad idea. You can't have them running around in the house or around the guests all the time.
Tell me how are you these days? There have been few articles in the future genius magazine these days about you. Any new inventions or some new concept that you are working in secret?" Ryan diverted his attention to the topic he knew future Iron Man would not stop talking about.
"I am spending more time in building hardware these days. You know machines are more stable and make more sense than anything else. I designed my first engine when I was six or seven I think and I am upgrading it now."
"Of course, who has not gone through inventing engines at seven-year-old phase. I think I designed mine soon after yours and I just recently upgraded it. I used some inspiration from a jet ski engine. Would you like to see it? I named it Falcon. You know I am trying to attach it to a few retractable metal wings so it can actually make a man fly."
"What the fuck?! Seriously? Metallic wings? It won't support the weight of man until you map out the wings of a bird and make it like the size of .....Oh! Falcon! Got it. Nice but not practical enough. I mean it will be cool if you can design boots with jet thrusters or something that can do it easily instead of huge wings. Also materials. Yes, you can't use aluminium wings for it. Right? So how did you solve it?"
"Well, I was thinking of making my own alloy you know. I am already experimenting with various mineral combinations to see which can result in making this new material. Anyway, I will definitely find the best material and the rest is easy enough. You know Tony, flying has always been mankind's dream. I might just achieve that."
"Well, good luck to you for falcon! In case you succeed I will pour your first drink myself."
"Jeez, Man. We are 10. Why would you start drinking?"
"Well, family stuff. Anyway, where is that charming Ms. Meredith gone? She can't be jumping on that castle anyway. Right?"
"No. Actually, she is with my mom. My mom is fulfilling her wishes of a daughter now!"
"Let's go. Show me those flying wings of yours. I might help you guide it on those. You know I did design my first engine 11 months before you. Not that I am keeping a track of it or something?"
Well, Tony even at age of 10 is an annoying prick. That's for sure.
