Chapitre 11: Chapter Eight: Undead

I sit across from Silver, eating a bowl of curry while we wait. He's sipping cold Pinap Juice from a glass, gazing off into the sky lost in thought.

Eventually we hear an earth shaking roar, accompanied by the screams of people. At the ready, Silver and I stand up, pivoting to face whoever was causing the mayhem. I had a pretty good idea of who it was.

A woman with flowing chestnut hair walked into the clearing near the Pokémon Center, a Dragonite spewing flamethrower beside her.

Rage overtakes me. What had these people done to deserve this? Alola was a kind place with caring people and it struck an ire laced chord in me.

Hand flying to my nearest Pokéball, I release Ninetails and stride forwards.

The woman, who I could only assume was Cleyera glares at me. We stand maybe 40 feet from each other and I was closing the gap, Silver on my heels. I stopped listening to what he was saying, my blood was on fire.

"Cleyera!" I shout, pointing my finger at the woman. "Stop this! These people did nothing to you!"

Cleyera cackles, saying something quietly to her Dragonite. The creature rose up and unleashed a savage hyper beam, which splinters through my favorite malasada stand, sending the woman who works there scurrying away.

"Arrow, I choose you!" I send my ball up, I need someone who can chase Dragonite down.

"You want to play, sister? I'll rip you to fucking shreds!" Cleyera screams, launching another ball into the air and revealing Victreebel.

"Weavile, go!" I finally quell the roaring in my ears and hear Silver next to me. "Use Icicle Crash!" He bellows as his Weavile runs, lightning quick towards Victreebel.

"Arrow, use Rock Polish and follow it up with Rock Slide!" I command, standing next to Silver.

Arrow glints, eyes hardening as he releases a barrage of falling stones. Dragonite ascends, dodging all of the stones but one. The impact sends the dragon-type Pokémon hurtling towards earth.

"Snap out of it or you're through, Dragonite!" Cley shrieks, when she sees the battle above her unfolding.

At her voice Dragonite let's out a grunt and straightens itself, rising back up to face Arrow.

A flamethrower spat out of it's mouth and Arrow rockets away, spinning while he easily dodges.

"Aerial Ace!" I command, keeping my eyes fixed on the battle in the skies above me.

"Giga Impact!" Cleyera yells, turning her attention back to her losing Victreebel. Weavile was making quick work of it. Silver was extremely powerful. It almost scared me to see such raw power.

Dragonite flashes with light, storing power to launch itself in a breakneck attack.

I clench my teeth and wait for it, I trust Arrow and I know he trusts me as well.

Finally Dragonite barrels forwards, a cracking whoosh as speed and power collect around it. This is my opportunity to end this battle.

"Use Protect and follow it up with Rock Slide!" My command hits the mark and Arrow throws up a protective sphere; just in time to waste Dragonite's Giga Impact.

Rock Slide summons and Dragonite is sent spiraling to earth as multiple rocks strike it down. It hits with a crack and lays, unmoving.

Arrow lets out a victory cry, shining as he uses Rock Polish in wait for his next potential opponent. This isn't a normal battle, this is a battle for freedom and honor.

"Why are you here?" I demand as Victreebel hits the ground, and faints.

Cleyera looks furious, her brow pulled in and her breaths coming in ragged gasps.

"Rhyperior!" Her voice cracks as she sends out another Pokémon.

Silver retracts Weavile and sends out a gleaming Kingdra. I can tell by it's polished scales that Silver takes good care of it.

"Draaaa!" The impressive blue Kingdra throws it's head back in a battle cry.

"Kingdra, use Laser Focus!" Silver commands, jutting a finger towards his partner.

Realizing her disadvantage Cleyera let's out an animalistic shriek before commanding Rhyperior to use Earthquake.

I hear sirens in the background as Officer Jenny and the police rush towards town. Silver noticed too, a grimace sets itself on his face.

"Let's finish this quickly! Use scald!" Silver keeps looking over his shoulder as the sirens get louder.

Is he wanted by the police? Fear spikes inside me as I imagine him being arrested. Sure, his first impression was terrible and we'd only spent a few hours together…. But I felt connected to him.

Battling here, against our sister together like this. Her, obviously bent by evil and him? Well, I wasn't really sure. But this part of me knew that I owed him a chance.

Laser Focus takes effect and Rhyperior is unable to evade the attack. Silver fires off another Scald, I can see that he's visibly sweating now. The police are basically here, he's out of time.

"Get out of here!" I hiss, stepping next to him.

"Not a chance," he chides, but the worry on his face is written clearly. I had yet to recall Ninetails and beckoned her to come closer to me.

"Ninetails take him to our hut." I hand Silver her Pokéball and he meets my gaze, shocked. "Do you trust me even though we just met?" I ask him, seriousness taking over me.

"I guess I'll have to," he fights back a smile and hands me Kigrda's pokéball. "Don't embarrass him, he really hates to lose." With that Silver dashed away after Ninetails, crashing into the jungle beside us.

"What the fuck was that?" Cleyera looks even more angry as Silver vanishes from sight. Suddenly she hears the sirens; she must have been deafened by rage and not noticed them. "Fuck!" She screams, pulling out another pokèball and releasing a Pidgeot.

Damn she was smart for bringing two flying type Pokémon to escape with if one was knocked out.

"Kingdra use Ice beam!" I command, as she retracts Rhyperior so she can climb onto Pidgeot.

Kingdra reacts slowly, narrowing its eyes at me in distrust before it spews a beam of glittering ice towards Pidgeot.

"Use Tailwind!" Cleyera shouts, moments before my Ice Beam command.

Pidgeot lifts up and away, riding the wind as they fade into the distance.

Officer Jenny arrives first, her Granbull on her heels. "Damn it!" She shouts, "we missed her!" Jenny turns to me wildly and asks, "do you know where she's going?"

"Kanto." I say, grimly. I pull out Silver's ball, it's turquoise and white with black marks over the top. A net ball. "Great work, Arrow and Kingdra return." I turn back to Jenny, "I'm sorry I wasn't able to apprehend her myself. I had to intervene, she was trying to burn the town down."

"That's okay. Nurse Joy already explained everything so don't worry about it." Jenny pats me with a gloved hand. "You should go back home and get some rest. Do you want a police escort?"

I bristled, thinking of Silver who had surely made it back to my hut by now. "No, that's alright. I fear if she returns it will be back in a public place like this time. She didn't seem to care about bystanders or anything like that." Guilt crashed over me and I continued, "this is my fault. I'll find somewhere else to stay soon."

Jenny didn't reply but her lips tightened as she looked away from me. "Have a safe journey," she says softly before turning back towards her bike.

I push my way onto the jungle path and towards my hidden hut. I didn't know what to do or where to go. Why didn't I think about the innocent people here when I hid myself? Damn it. Damn Giovanni most of all though.

Sticky heat makes my dress cling uncomfortably to my body. I tie my hair up in a ponytail to get it off my neck, sweat stings my eyes as I make the miserable March home. Not home anymore. Would anywhere ever be?

My thoughts are interrupted as the hut comes into view. I see Silver sitting with his back against the door, scratching Ninetails under her chin.

"Hey," I say lamely.

"So?" He stands up and walks towards me. "By the way I was locked out."

I laugh, for some reason I laugh really hard. Tears are streaming down my face and the back of my head is slightly tingling. My sides start to hurt and I crouch down, heaving.

Silver suddenly looks angry, "what the hell are you laughing for?"

"Because I just think it's funny that I never gave you the key and sent you here." Really, I laughed because this was the first time something like this had happened. I'd spent my life locked in a room basically; why would I think to give him a key?

"What happened with Cleyera?" He asks as I hand him back Kingdra's ball.

"She retreated when she realized the cops were coming. She's too angry and it makes her unobservant." I unlock the door to the hut and invite Silver inside.

Silver looks around and I grow embarrassed, "yeah it's really small. It's a rental. You have to go through the bedroom to get to the bathroom so that sucks." I sit down on the couch and pull a can of Fresh Water towards me. "Thirsty?" I offer.

Silver grunts and grabs a water, lost in thought he sits at the other end of the couch. "What are you going to do now?" He asks eventually.

"Honestly I don't know. Everything is transpiring more quickly than I thought it would. I feel like I can't stay in Alola any longer." I fiddle with the can. "I wanted to get stronger before they sniffed me out."

"Then come with me," Silver says after many long moments had gone by. "Back to where I've been hiding at."

I sigh and look out the window, taking in the humid jungle for what would be perhaps the last time. "Giovanni told me I had a brother and that you died. He told me that was why I couldn't go outside, that if I did I would be killed by the same people." Tears formed in my eyes. "I never met you but I remember being so sad that you had died so young, that I never got to know you."

Silver moved his hand across the couch and pats my leg with it. "It's okay," he says. "To Giovanni I did die, but not in the way that you thought." He looked deeply sad for a moment before he cleared his throat.

"We can take a Ferry in the morning," I offer.

"That works, we should both get some rest." Silver stands up and stretches.

I walk into the bedroom and collapse on the bed, darkness taking me almost instantly.

We wake before dawn and I begin packing the few items I have. I tell Silver that the Ferry leaves as soon as the sun comes up.

We make our way out of the jungle and I cast a final look back at the hut. It had felt like home, a sensation that I couldn't remember before now. Anguish overwhelmed me and I tore me eyes away, setting them on the battered path ahead.

Silver held a low hanging branch out of my way as we transitioned out of the jungle and onto the beach. The Ferry rocked slightly on the waves as the Captain stalked around the docks, ushering passengers who waved tickets onto the boat.

"I flew here on Arrow when I first arrived, after I escaped. Giovanni tried to kill me that day I truly believe." I say to Silver as we trudge through the moist sand and closer to the dock.

"He'll pay soon enough, for what he did to both of us. As well as the things he's done to other innocent people." Silver promises as he pulls his billfold from his back pocket.

We pay for our tickets and step onto the sloshing Ferry, ignoring the rumbling clouds that settled over the island.

This was the next step in my journey. Back to Kanto with Silver towards his home in Lavender Town. He had tried to put a lot of space between himself and Giovanni while still staying in Kanto.

We would get off at Fuschia City and travel towards Lavender town via the skies once we got there. I took in one final breath of the island air and set my eyes forwards, towards the future.
