"Absolutely not," Verra interjected. Leaving Ady with a long face." Shame on you." Verra side-eyed Xasha, who simply shrugged innocently. "You'd do anything to run away from your responsibilities, wouldn't you?"

"So he doesn't want to be the Highlord?" Adara asked.

"No, he would rather be a rake. Spending all day in his lab or disappear for months exploring." Verra said dramatically.

"I don't see what's so bad about wanting a bit of freedom." Xasha tried to justify his irresponsible behavior.

"You don't need freedom you need an anchor. A big, heavy anchor to keep you in place," Verra retorted.

"If he doesn't want the job, why don't you take over, mom? You're always saying you run Estia and the guild, anyway?" Adara chimed in.

"Now there's an idea," Xasha had shining eyes.

"Forget about it. You'll probably have to die first for me to take that post."
