Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can be found in natural soils, groundwater, rotting plants, or even located in the feces of animals. People get simply infected by consuming foods that are contaminated by this kind of bacteria. Listeriosis is what one called the infection of this bacteria. 

Also, listeriosis can be fatal but if treated with penicillin, ampicillin, and amoxicillin and proper medication and caring of the infected that includes making sure that they drink a proper amount of water by being hydrated to their body,they also make sure that they have proper rest and if possible vomit or release the contaminated food they had eaten.
