The collar of the sweater hid her pointed chin and delicate lips.
Her waist-length, silky, curling black hair emitted a faint fragrance, appearing particularly supple under the light, tempting one to touch…
The intelligent and elegant aura of Stanhope Brown was filling the tiny elevator space, making Grace feel uneasy. She smelled a slight hint of cigarette in Stanhope's overpowering manly scent, the dominance of which was so oppressive that she instinctively moved a little to the side.
"Miss, do you find Mr. Secretary of State that frightening?" Shane Sim asked, his voice full of laughter.
Shane found it odd. Other young ladies, upon seeing this national heartthrob, couldn't wait to throw themselves at him. But this young lady… She just stood quietly to the side, wishing she could shrink into a ball and vanish from sight.
Even Stanhope, who had irrevocably cornered him into catching this elevator using a form of reverse psychology, was behaving oddly.
Intuition told Shane that there was something between these two.
Shane found it extremely intriguing. The scandal-ridden, yet self-contained Mr. Secretary of State would actually go to the trouble of riding an elevator with a woman?
"Hm?" Grace also glanced at the smiling Shane, her eyes clear as black gemstones, looking slightly puzzled.
"Maybe no one has told you he's Mr. Secretary of State?" Shane's handsome face broke into a grin as he nudged his lips towards Stanhope to direct Grace's attention to the man beside her.
Grace unconsciously followed Shane's movement and looked at Stanhope's side face. Elegant and poised, one-half of his sharply contoured, firm face was illuminated by the light; the other half was in shadows. His eyes shone like sparkling diamonds in the dark...
Feeling Grace's gaze on him, Stanhope also turned his head towards her. To Grace, Stanhope's deep ink-like eyes were startling, even when carrying a welcoming smile, as they bore into her...
It seemed that everything was exposed before him. To say he was extraordinary seemed like an understatement. His steady, noble aura, like that of someone superior to others, was overwhelming.
Grace withdrew her gaze and hung her head with a frown, a light layer of sweat forming on her palms.
Stanhope's steadiness was exuded from his bones. No matter what, there would always be a light smile on his lips, his eyes and brows always showing subtle tenderness, which had every woman swooning.
As Shane had presumed, there was indeed something between these two. With a mischievous smile, Shane said, "Oh... So you do know each other!"
The sweat on Grace's palms increased.
"Are you ill?" Stanhope's voice was deep. It didn't sound concerned, but appeared as casual small talk that one couldn't ignore.
Knowing that Stanhope was asking if she was at the hospital because she was sick, she replied, "No, my brother had an accident, I'm here to visit him... It's all okay now."
Only after she finished speaking did Grace realize, she might have said too much. What does her brother have to do with Stanhope? Why would he care? The last part of what she said... 'It's all okay now,' was it superfluous?
