Chapitre 47: Planning of the 'Perfect Crime'

In a small cottage, wooden logs crackle as they burn in the fireplace. Although the cottage was modest in size, the furnishings were luxurious. It was warm and dimly lit in the bitter cold nights.

A man reclined in an armchair in this dimly lit room, sipping his coffee and relishing in the peaceful setting. On the centre table there were two cups. One was his, and the other belonged to someone who was about to pay him a visit.

Listening to a knock on his door, he went to open it and met the pair of blue eyes staring mysteriously at him.

"Mr Condrad, are you surprised to see me?" Shane inquired, a sly grin on his face.

"Mr Aldrich had already informed me about your arrival," he replied, moving aside and giving him a way.

"Ah, that oldie," Shane grumbled as he walked inside the house, "he's ruining my surprise streak."

Mr Condrad ignored him and shut the door first after checking out to see if anyone had followed him. As it was the winter season, there were rarely any humans wandering around at night. They prefer to remain in their warm, cosy rooms. So did he.

"Is everything going as planned?" Shane inquired as he examined a display item on the wooden showcase cabinet.

"Yes. The princess will be assassinated by the cursed one tomorrow," Mr Condrad responded, savouring a sip of his steaming coffee.

Shane gave a crooked smirk. "I wish I had got the delight to do the deed. But well, we are still getting the result," he said, acting as if he was disheartened.

"That crazy witch had nearly destroyed the plan, if not for Mr Gilbert, they would have left Limemere. Out of all the men on the earth, she used a picture of a person who stayed in Limemere, brilliant."

"Chantel, she has her brain lodged in her knee. I was expecting something like this, so I told Gilbert to keep an eye on them and make sure they didn't leave before the full moon," Shane exclaimed, pleased with himself.

"I wonder, why was it planned to kill them in a different province rather than here?" Mr Condrad asked, pondering the situation.

"Pretty much straightforward. If it was done here, the King would have set all his contacts for the investigation and we would have been caught easily without the benefit of greater deed," he replied.

Mr Condrad nodded in understanding and said, "Ah, so by killing her in a different province we can mask it as an animal attack and continue with plan A."

"Indeed," Shane smirked and added, "You are becoming smart day by day Mr Condrad."

Condrad brushed it aside, as he was accustomed to his sugar-coated comments, and asked, "Well, why not do it on the journey? Still he would have got the chance to attack her."

"Well, he would have but in rare conditions, if the coachman escaped or did the princess, the secret would have been revealed. Furthermore, we have no means of confirming where they will be during the journey when the transformation occurs. By any chance if they were crossing a village and were surrounded by the people, they would have killed the cursed one and we can't take the risk of losing him without fully completing the tasks." Shane reasoned.

"I agree," Mr Condrad said as he set the coffee cup on the tabletop. "And because the village is so far away, there will be no communication." He added to which Shane nodded.

"I presume you have briefed about the plan accurately to everyone who is involved in this." Seeing Mr Condrad nod at him, he continued, "Tomorrow's plan has to succeed without any missteps."

"Mr Gilbert has invited them to his Manor for the occasion. On their way back, the wheel in the carriage would break as it would be damaged by Mr Gilbert priorly. In the woods, when there's no one around to aid them, the cursed one will attack and kill the princess," Mr Condrard briefed the plan.

Shane's face lit up with a wicked grin as he listened to it. "Now that Mr Wilkin has left the council, there is no one to stop us from carrying out our plan."

"That man was so close to uncovering it."

"The impediments to our strategy will have to pay with their lives, and Admiral was no more than a threat like a swinging sword around neck, destroying everything in his path," Shane explained.

Mr Condrad stated, "Kill the cursed one as quickly as possible."

"Soon. After all, he needs to kill the king as well. We can then expose him as a werewolf and hang him in front of the public to assassinate all the individuals of the Zenira dynasty."

Mr Condrad nodded.

"Tomorrow will be a day of remembrance. The princess's ascension to heaven day," Shane stated with a nasty smirk on his face. The sinister grin on his face was intensified by the light from the blaze, which could have terrified a weak person to death.

With this the discussion came to an end and Shane left the house with satisfaction. Even in the chilly breeze outside, the man walked as if he was strolling in the garden. A wicked grin appeared on his face as he thought about the princess who will live her last day tomorrow.
