Chapitre 37: The First Assault

The sun had barely risen above the horizon when the enemy forces appeared. A dark mass of soldiers, their armor glinting ominously in the early light, marched steadily toward Fort Valoria. The ground shook with the rhythm of their advance, and a low murmur of anticipation spread through our ranks.

Lukas's Viewpoint:

I tightened my grip on my katana, feeling the reassuring weight of the blade. "Archers, prepare to fire!" I shouted, my voice carrying over the battlefield. "Mages, get ready with your spells!"

Aria was already moving, her daggers flashing as she signaled her unit to take their positions. "We need to hold them off until Eldrin can complete the barrier," she reminded me, her voice calm despite the tension in the air.

Eldrin's Viewpoint:

I could feel the magical energy swirling around me as I concentrated on the spell. The Eye of Eternity pulsed with power in my hand, its energy merging with my own. "Just a little longer," I muttered, my voice barely audible over the din of the approaching army. "I need more time."

The first wave of arrows soared through the air, their tips glinting in the sunlight. They struck the enemy lines with deadly precision, and a cheer rose from our troops. But the enemy kept advancing, undeterred by the initial assault.

Aria's Viewpoint:

I moved swiftly among our soldiers, offering words of encouragement and checking their positions. "Hold the line!" I called out, my voice ringing with authority. "Don't let them break through!"

The clash of steel rang out as the two armies collided, and the battlefield erupted into chaos. I darted in and out of the fray, my daggers finding their marks with lethal efficiency. But there were so many of them, and I knew we couldn't hold out forever.

Lukas's Viewpoint:

I fought my way through the throng of enemy soldiers, my katana a blur of motion. Each strike was precise and deadly, but it felt like trying to hold back the tide. "Eldrin, we need that barrier now!" I shouted, my voice raw with effort.

Eldrin's Viewpoint:

The final words of the incantation left my lips, and the barrier sprang to life. A shimmering dome of energy enveloped Fort Valoria, its light pushing back the enemy forces. "It's done!" I yelled, feeling a surge of relief and exhaustion.

Aria's Viewpoint:

The barrier gave us the respite we needed, but the battle was far from over. "Fall back to the fort!" I ordered, guiding our troops toward the safety of the walls. The enemy pounded against the barrier, but it held strong, giving us a precious moment to regroup.
