Hello
My name is Red Vermilion. My colleagues call me Red. I am a huntsman. A hunter of death or rather the Creatures of Grimm. Those abominations that seek only to kill all of life. I am pretty young for my occupation though age never really matters when it comes to having traumatic jobs in the World of Remnant. I'm 18 years old and I Graduated Beacon Academy two years ago. This will be my 30th professional huntsman mission and I learned that patience is a must. Which is why I'm reading a book called a man with two souls up in a tree in the Forever Fall Forest. Waiting for my prey to arrive. Grimm wolves with a supposed red heart on their back. That is quite distinctive. According to my client they're a pack of Grimm wolves that hunt only in specific locations attacking 3 specific settlements at specific times of day. I find it hard to believe that the Grimm are acting so coordinated and intelligent. Not to say their wild animals but it's almost as if they're being given orders. Quite curious indeed. It matters not. My job is to catch them and kill them. I really need the pay.
By the way, if you're wondering if I have a team I'll get to that later. At the moment I work alone.
A good but if time has passed and I find myself wondering if they'll ever come through this path. My intel tells me that these wolves usually travel on forgotten yet easy access paths to and from the settlements. This is the last one I've checked. But I have a feeling they'll be here any-
And here they come. I hear their feet running in the ground, crinkling the leaves. Yes this is it. Now let's check for my target. I take out binoculars and observe my prey. I see 6 wolves. The one up from leading the pack doesn't have the mark. But the one in the back does. It seems to stay a good distance behind the others. Very peculiar. I wait for the first five Grimm to past and jump landing in from of my target. They all stop and immediately begin circling me. Response is quick as hell. No pause. Or surprise. I reach behind my waist and slowly unsheathed my sword. A black nearly indestructible blade by the name of Kuro. I point my sword at my target and words are never needed. See Grimm don't speak but they do smell fear. This is usually how they find prey but I fear Death not. No instead I hunt it.
We stand silently like a stand off. The wind and crimson leaves seem to fall still on the ground. I breath in and out. And in the second a silent announcer declares "Battle begin!"
The wolf closest leaps at me and I flip over it as another strategically leaps to catch me in mid air. I kick it sending the beast flying in the tree. Balancing myself on the first assailant's back. I roll over it while beheading the foul creature in the process. The others kind of stand there and stare at me.
"What's wrong Grimm?" I smile "it's just me"
The rest attack and I dodge and weave out of the way of the attacks. They move quickly but experience and training is on my side. Though they fight like they're thinking. Like really thinking. They're adapting to my moves and reacting better. I should kill them quick before I make a mistake. As a huntsman I must observe, prepare, and take quick decisive actions for optimal results. And so I do. I pull out my sidearm. The elemental revolver made by the shcnee dust company to fire dust rounds and black rounds. I call this beauty Kali. By the way Black rounds are bullets designed to Pierce through Auras. It was made to defend against bandits and other such people. But in any case I fire out ice dust rounds to slow the moment of my enemy and finish them off with Kali. Once the final head rolls the world began moving again. Leaves fall, wind brushes by and the sound of birds chirp. The battle is over. I walk over to my target and kick over the headless body. On the back there is indeed a red heart symbol. It's strange. And almost like a bad over a deathly breeze washes over me. I feel this is the beginning of a long and perilous journey. Well… what did I expect. Ozpin always told me that the fate of a huntsman would probably be a dark one. Nevertheless I will face it with Valor.
Now it's time to collect that reward money so I can finally eat. I blow out a breath of relief. And the winds blow ever so gently in the Forest.
