“Gray is unassuming and shy. He doesn’t put himself forward. He’s a good worker. People do pay attention to him but he shies away. From what he said to you and the way he behaved this evening, he believes he has nothing to offer. However, Enzo certainly saw him tonight. He didn’t have to offer to pick Gray up.” Keith made the turn from Monmouth Road into Interlaken.
“Yeah.” Bobby nodded as he patted Keith’s thigh. “Gray’s probably going to believe that Enzo offered out of pity. His own self-esteem to the contrary, Gray’s actually quite attractive when he smiles, but from the sound of it, he hasn’t had much to smile about for quite a while. Working at the Sunset and living over at Continental Gardens, he probably had all of the money worries Jason had but not the support. Jason didn’t have to deal with it all alone. He had Edith and the soccer team.”
“I never thought I’d consider Jason lucky, but he was fortunate in his friends.” Keith pulled onto their street.
