“It will,” Lorena said. “It will work because I planned it. If you start to doubt anything, just remember how much easier it is to tell him the truth than it is to tell your children that Howard died from a venomous snake bite because you couldn’t find your way out of a lie.”
“You’re right,” Jason said, opening the office door for Lorena. “I’ll make it happen.”
By the time they reached the meeting, Howard was all smiles, and so were the cleaners who were there.
“I found a crew,” Howard said. “I offered some people overtime if they’d do their normal jobs and this one. I figured it would buy us time before we had to hire anyone else.”
“You’re amazing,” Jason said, enjoying the way that Howard was looking at him.
