“Can it wait until morning, Ellis?” Gilbert slipped back into his calm, controlled manner

“Yeah, yeah, sure.” He swayed a little and Gilbert wound an arm around his middle. “It has to do with Arlo, though. And Nash chasing a bird.”

Nash shivered.

“Go get him.” Gilbert met his eyes. “Don’t hurt him or you’ll regret it later.”

Nash showed his teeth in warning. “I’m not gonna hurt him.”

“No? What will you do when he struggles? When he doesn’t want to be near you? How much time can you give him to come around and see things your way?”

“My way?”
