Four Weeks Later

Pauly walked into the private room at the Malaguay National Bank with his new safety deposit box. He sighed deeply. This was the hardest acting job he’d ever had. He wasn’t used to it but was proud of himself for having gotten this far. Knowing he was probably being watched by cameras hidden somewhere, he took the packet of money from the secret pocket he had at his back beneath his belt. He flipped through the stack of bills that were enveloped there. Putting one crisp one-thousand dollar note aside, he placed the rest in the box and closed it. He placed the single bill in his inside jacket pocket, then took the box back to the bank office and signaled the officer that he was ready to place the box back in its nest in the wall.

“Gratias, Se?or Tarelli. I hope you enjoy your stay in our country.”
