“I’m sorry, he gets real tense when the usual routine changes.”

“He’s shy,” I said as we all made our way to the entrance. “I was a shy kid, too. I used to hold my breath and get purple in the face every time my mom’s friends tried talking to me.”

“Yeah, well, this is different. This isn’t a personality trait.”

“Yeah, I know,” I muttered, looking over at Noah. “I know.”

Davinder and Eileen were thinking of taking their son to a neurologist.

Jude and Fay called out to us. They were already standing in line.

“Hey, Allan,” Davinder said gently before touching my shoulder, “thank you anyway.”

I understood what he meant.
