Walker grinned and began telling her friend how kind Sir Henry was to his lady, all the little treasures he showered on her, from out-of-season fruits and flowers to a silver necklace with a heart-shaped locket that contained miniature photos of them both.

Frankly, Banks would have preferred an employer like Lady Eugenia, whose face was always lit with a smile.

However, she made sure to keep that to herself. She was fortunate to have found such a position, and if Lady Helena was a difficult employer…well, that was just something she’d have to live with.

Meanwhile, Banks knew that later that afternoon, while Walker was doing Lady Eugenia’s hair prior to going down to dinner, Walker would reveal everything Banks had told her.

There were no secrets below stairs.
