“Good work,” Pauly smiled, slapping her on the shoulder.
“How are they treating you here? Is there anything you need?” Deems asked turning back to the window.
“No, I’m doing alright for the time being. I could use a long walk on a beach.”
Deems looked at her, a smile on his face for the first time that afternoon. “You deserve one. Hopefully, it won’t be much longer. I hope Dr. Thomason told you how pleased I was with what you’ve been doing.”
“Yes, she did. Thank you, sir.”
“I’ve been getting good reports from her but I took this opportunity to come and see for myself. I’m sorry to see you get hurt.”
“It’s part of the territory, I guess.” Cam lowered her eyes, “I’m sorry Lacey got killed. It was an accident. I’d been hoping that…well, I guess that’s moot now.”
“It’s part of the job, Andrews. These things happen. They’re never pleasant but we learn to deal with them.”
“I know that, sir. It’s not the first time I’ve had to kill someone. I just don’t like dealing with it.”
