“She sure don’t like to answer questions, now, does she?” The woman at the door shook her head.

“You looking for trouble?” the first asked.

“No.” Cam looked straight at her but kept her voice level.

“What are you looking for?” the second asked.

“Just a little space. I’ve been pushed kind of hard this morning.”

“Oh, poor baby-butch. Don’t you like those nasty old guards? Did Miss Emerson bother you? She can be such a bitch.” The second woman reached up to push Cam’s hair behind her ear but Cam ducked out of the way.

“Cut the shit, Joany.” A fourth woman stood at the door. “Give the fish a break. The C.O.s did push her hard this morning.”

The three women took a mental step backward as the new woman pushed her way into the small room.

“My name’s Lou.” She extended her hand.

“Cameron,” Cam acknowledged as she shook the firm rough hand. It was large and fleshy like its owner.

“First or last?”

“What?” Cam didn’t understand the question.
