“So I guess that being said, you have no reason to reach out to her, do you,” I said, sitting down opposite of Jasmine.

Dropping her head to bless her food, Jasmine didn’t respond to my question. Then lifting her head and smiling, she said, “Why would I want to replay the past when my future is right in front of me?”

Assured my love life was heading in the right direction, I threw myself in work. I even managed to line up some freelance writing assignments for a national magazine.

“I knew keeping in touch with David’s sister would come in handy. I’m glad she was able to swing some work your way,” Karen said as I treated her to sushi in honor of helping get a chance to write nationally. She had passed my name to her ex-sister-in-law who served as content editor for a new online magazine. Based on Karen’s recommendation, I was able to sell a story on bed-and-breakfasts in the Carolinas.
