His mother bought both of her boys laptops for Christmas the year she died. His was old, but still serviceable. Mom bought the computers with all the bells and whistles, so even after seven years, he was able to get on the internet at the library and McDonald’s. He slept in one of the old bunk beds that his father stored in the garage after he and his brother outgrew them. His father made him buy the bed from him for twenty-five dollars. Ian cooked on a two-burner hotplate and used a toaster oven for everything else.

He planned to leave behind everything but the computer because he was going to go into business specializing in custom paint. I’ll bet Rémy can give me loads of referrals. I’m going to change the name of the business to Ian Sullivan, Custom Painter. I can see the ad, specializing in custom painting and textures. If you see it, I can replicate it. Well maybe something better sounding than that, I’ll work on it.
