He opens the door. I shield my eyes from the light with my hands. "Turn off the lights."

"I can turn them off, but we put them in just for you."

'Limit your communication with him. The longer you control him, the more taxing it will be on your body.'

I follow John Spencer, surprised to find the entire floor of the facility equipped with special lighting that's safe for my condition. Rounding the corner, I stop in my tracks. A circular desk manned by white lab coats stop their tasks and glance up.

"John Spencer," I whisper next to his ear. "Release your staff. Send them away."

"You are all dismissed, immediately, until farther notice." John Spencer approaches the desk. "Grab your belongs."

The personnel don't ask questions, which I find odd. Is this the norm here?

One by one, they gather their items and head to the elevator.
