The assassin, perched on the tree, heard some noise and stayed silent, observing the entrance of the cave. A bear emerged from the cave, scanning the surroundings before heading outside.
"I need to release some water," the bear mumbled as he looked around. The assassin heard him and instantly relaxed, for a moment he thought that the people inside might have known about him.
Should I kill him now? In the next fight, he'll be a hindrance. It's better to solve it first... The assassin contemplated this but then shook his head. No, if he kills the bear now, the people inside will be alerted, making it difficult to find more opportunities. With this in mind, the assassin coldly observed the bear below.
The bear, noticing the assassin's presence, arrived near the tree where he was hiding. The assassin, although disliking the fact that the bear was relieving itself nearby, refrained from taking any action. He could endure it; after all, he had experience lurking in sewers and other unsavory places during many missions.
The bear, standing on all fours, raised its legs and started to release water. While doing so, it glanced at its front right paw, which held three small thumb-sized glass tubes containing a white liquid. Following Ye Jingyi's instructions, the bear opened a tube and poured the contents near the tree root. The liquid emitted an unbearable and pungent smell, akin to dung.
The bear, finding the stench unbearable, finished releasing water and retreated. Instead of entering the cave, it sat outside, a short distance from the tree where the assassin lurked. The bear lay on the ground under the sunlight, seemingly sunbathing, but its actual purpose was to ensure the assassin did not change locations.
The assassin, hidden in the forest canopy, wore a disgusted expression as he endured the foul smell. Did this bear take a dump? Such a horrible smell! Despite his discomfort, he dared not move, fearing it would alert those inside the cave. Enduring the repulsive odor was a small price to pay for the opportunity to strike at a Foundation Realm target.
Vowing to seek revenge, the assassin promised himself that after killing the woman, he would catch the bear and lock it in sewers for seven days and seven nights. Additionally, he envisioned a prosperous future – purchasing a Foundation Realm pill, acquiring a mansion in the Great Fire city, and establishing his own family. His thoughts even ventured into considering marriage and naming his future children.
Slowly, without realizing it, he started to lose focus, entering a strange state where the concept of time eluded him, and he couldn't sense the danger, his entire body relaxed.
His eyes began to unfocus as he continued in this condition, and the longer he remained in this state, the worse his condition became.
Thud!
Five minutes after the bear released water, it heard a sound not far away, startling the bear. It looked and saw a human-shaped figure lying on the ground without any movements. Rather than approaching, the bear retreated to the cave to inform Ye Jingyi.
Inside the cave, an awkward atmosphere lingered between Ye Jingyi and Hui Ying. After the kissing incident, they were uncertain about how to communicate with each other.
"That person is down! That person is down!" The bear burst into the cave, shouting to Ye Jingyi. While Ye Jingyi remained calm, having anticipated the outcome, Hui Ying was greatly surprised.
Initially skeptical of Ye Jingyi's seemingly simple plan, Hui Ying now witnessed its success. The bear's task was straightforward – to pretend to pee under the tree where the assassin rested and pour the liquid provided by Ye Jingyi onto the ground. After about five minutes, the assassin would be incapacitated.
With incredulous eyes, Hui Ying looked at Ye Jingyi and asked, "What exactly is this liquid?" She recognized that the success of the plan hinged on the mysterious liquid.
Ye Jingyi didn't immediately respond to her query. Instead, he turned to the bear and said, "Bear, pack up your stuff! We'll be leaving now. More enemies will come here sooner or later, so it's better to leave. Besides, you're already our accomplice, and if they find you, you'll be in danger too."
Resigned, the bear nodded, acknowledging the truth of Ye Jingyi's words. He agreed to follow Ye Jingyi in their escape.
