Anna and Lacey were entering the inner hall. They were with messy clothes and swollen eyes. But their faces were very neat, with no tears. When they saw that the guards left without finding anything, they knew Queen Margaret was safe.
They knelt on the ground, “Your Highness, we're so sorry for coming late.”
These two poor girls did not know Mary had already told Margaret their suffering, so they wiped their tears before coming in the palace and pretended to be okay to avoiding bringing any sadness to the Queen.
Margaret was deeply sad. She thought highly of the two maids who had been serving her closely. They were indeed smart and capable. Margaret originally planned to introduce some good lad to marry them in the next year, and they could get rid of the servant identity at the rest of life. But they lost the virginity for her sake. Their husbands might not treat them with faith for the virginity reason.
