Understanding.

Such and easy word to pronounce, but such a tough concept to put in practice.

Understanding people had been a struggle for me, who had little to no empathy…and yet I chose psychology as my major; perhaps to challenge myself to do more, but now I knew that that had been incorrect. I longed for understanding, both of myself and my world.

I wanted school to teach me to see others through their eyes or to walk in their shoes…but in the end, their focus was on logic rather than empathy. The very thing my mother had stomped that out of my life and her ways. And this life had helped little more either, but being a middle-aged woman in the body of a little girl, had let me see the world through a new set of eyes…both literally and metaphorically.

Now I understood people on a more profound level than before, as if being reborn had opened an additional dimension of understanding within me.
