With his knowledge of firearms, Ross recognized it a Smith & Wesson .357 revolver, small and lightweight but just as lethal. He immediately edged in front of Allie and tried to push her back. "Now, wait a minute! Let's talk about this!"

Wilfred gave the gun a subtle wave. "Yes, let's do, but inside, please. This time of the evening attracts unwanted pests, what we call bloodsuckers. Ladies and young gentlemen first, of course, but please walk slow and don't try anything foolish."

"All right." Placing a protective arm around her, Ross ushered Allie inside and quickly whispered in her ear. "Just go along with me."

"Don't try anything stupid," she hissed back.

He squeezed her arm in response and took her over to sit on the sofa. Wilfred moved to the first wicker chair, his gun gripped in his fingers, the nose pointed between the duo, just as Martin Parrish had done back at the French villa.
