Chapitre 87: Chapter 085

"Charmeleon! Advance and use Slash!" yelled Alex.

The golden Charmeleon raced towards the red one. Its claws glowed white, as it Slashed at its opponent.

The opposing Charmaleon dodged, and shot a Flamethrower.

"Counter with your own Flamethrower!" said Alex.

The two Flamethrowers collided mid air, but manged to cancel each other out. The opposing Charmeleon then used Smokescreen. Alex knew that Charmeleon wouldn't be affected by Smokescreen, so he decided to ignore it.

"Use Scary Face" yelled Alex.

Charmeleon looked at his opponent with a scary frown, and the opposing Charmeleon visibly slowed down with hesitation.

But it still used Smokescreen once more.

"Charmeleon, sweep the area covered with smoke using Flamethrower!" yelled Alex.

Charmeleon used Flamethrower on all the areas that was covered by the smoke.

The smoke cleared shortly after, but only the golden Charmeleon was visible. There was a visible hole in the ground where the opposing Charmader was standing though.

"Dig? Seriously? That's an odd choise of skill for a Charmeleon" thought Alex, already predicting that the Dig wouldn't connect.

While a Pokemon was not limited to only knowing four moves in this world, it was the recommended number of moves a beginner Pokemon should be proficient in. Using a bunch of TMs and move tutors, a Pokemon could learn dozens of moves, but they may just end up being mediocre in using all of those moves.

Hence, for Novice Pokemon, training few frequently used moves very well, and having a few supporting or supplimetary offensive moves with basic understanding was the best configuration of moveset.

When it was still a Charmander, Alex trained it primarily in Dragon Breath, Dragon Tail, and Flamethrower, while using Smokescreen and Scary Face as supplimetary moves.

While it knew Dragon Rush, performing this move with Charmander's tiny body was harmful to it if done frequently. As for Slash, Charmander's claws weren't that fit for it.

Now, when it has become a Charmeleon and broke through to the Vetearn stage, Alex planned to add Slash, Metal Claw, and Dragon Claw to its main moveset, as they would work well with Charmeleon's claws. Dragon Dance would be trained as a supporting move, while Iron Tail and Shadow Claw will be trained as supplimentoy offence. Dragon Rush would be used only when it is a Charizard, along with the truly powerful fire type moves like Blast Burn and Fire Blast.

"Dig was not a mainstream move for the Charizard line even if the first two stages could learn it. This was because Charizard could not use Dig, and knowing how to tunnel through the ground was basically useless for the offensive oriented Charizard line.

"Charmeleon. Listen and feel closely. Hit with Dragon Tail when you see or feel Charmeleon. Avold the attack if possible. Else hit back harder" said Alex.

Charmeleon stayed silent and waited. Soon, it heard some noise nearby and hit there with Dargon Tail. The opposing Charmeleon flew out.

"This is why you dont teach this line Dig. They can't move silently and stealthily underground like true Ground Type Pokemon, and they do not have the patience to wait it out into a battle of attrition" thought Alex.

"Now Charmeleon, Dragon Breath. Follow up with continuous Slash" yelled Alex.

The opposing Charmeleon was hit while still midair with Dragon Breath. It got up to its feet after, but it was moving quite slowly now, both due to the paralysis from the attack and the sequelae from teh Scray Face used earlier.

Charmeleon leapt at the opponent with glowing claws, and Slashed. The opposing Charmeleon tried to fight back, but it was noticeable slower and couldn't keep up.

Finally, after suffering from a few direct hits, the opposing Charmeleon was exhausted and wobbling.

"Finish it off! Use Dragon Tail" yelled Alex.

The golden Charmeleon then whipped its tail which was surrounded by royal purplish and slammed it into the opposing red Charmeleon.

The opposing Charmeleon fell down, with circles in its eyes. All the Pokemon that were spectating cried out as if they were cheering.

Charmeleon flexed itself, giving out loud cries, as it was looked upon with adoration by the surrounding Pokemon.

"Nice job buddy. You were awesome. You not only eveolved, but you broke through into the Veteran stage, and beat a higher level Pokemon than you!" said Alex.

As Alex was about to return Charmeleon to its Pokeball, he heard all the sounds of the cheering Pokemon around him fade. He looked up, to see all if them fearfully and respectfully stare at the shadow that was slowly moving over.

Alex looked up, to see a Charizard making its way over

"Level 94! This must be the Professor's main force!" thought Alex.

Charizard stopped some distance away p, looked at the fallen Charmeleon, then at the standing golden Charmeleon, and then looked at Alex.

"Is this the legendary 'father comes after son is beaten' wuxia troupe?" thought Alex in horror.
