Chapitre 39: Chapter 038
Professor Oak sat in front of the computer in his office, busily typing something.
Suddenly, something flashed in the room. A moment later, a fox-like Pokemon appeared in front of him.
"Ah, Alakazam! Did you get anything?" asked Professor Oak.
"Not really. He is Dark" said Alakazam, projecting its voice with telepathy.
Professor Oak paused. He looked away from his computer and looked at Alakazam.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Positive" came the reply. "I hid my gaze using my psychic powers and tried to read his mind. I drew a blank, and he perceived my gaze. These, as you know are solid indicators that he is Dark."
"That is concerning. What then?" asked the Professor.
"I forcefully read his mind of course. I did not scan his memories. I just focused on his thoughts and feelings. He has lofty ambitions, a source of great confidence, great love for Pokemon, longing for travel, and deep respect for you. His powers are raw and basic, they have never been tempered or actively used. It is almost certain that he doesn't know about this trait of himself. No maleficent thoughts or connections to any organisations as far as I can tell" replied Alakazam.
"That's a relief then. No organisation would send an untrained Dark to others anyway. Dark are fearsome tools of infiltration, but only when trained. It's highly almost impossible for any of my enemies to send an untrained dark for me to discover and use, a kid too at that. So we can safely use him. So, what did he think?" asked Professor Oak.
"I am sure he doesn't know I read his mind. He seemed to think it was a prank played by me. But he is a Dark, even if a fledgling one. So I can't be certain" said Alakazam.
"It's fine. I will compensate him generously for this. Coupled with the respect you say he has for me, he shouldn't hold a grudge" said Professor Oak.
Alakazam nodded and disappeared in another flash. Professor Oak went back to his work.
"So. Are you sure about staying in Pallet Town?" asked Joseph, when they were having dinner.
After Alex told Joseph all about the offer he received, and how he accepted it during lunch. After that, Joseph was called for a talk with Professor Oak, along with the others, so they never got to speak more about it
"Yeah! I want to go on an adventure, but I'm not ready. I feel like I should stay here for a while. We should follow our feelings. That's what you always say to me isn't it?" replied Alex.
"From now on, you will be Alex Burns of Pallet Town" said Joseph sourly.
If he had a permanent residence in Pallet Town, that would be his town of origin in any official record, not where he grew up in. So unless he cancelled his residency in Pallet Town and re-registered elsewhere, his town of origin would be Pallet Town.
" I'm sorry I broke that promise we made when we were younger, but I will not break the second part" said Alex.
Around 6 years ago, when they were much younger, Alex and Joseph swore that they would become two of the most amazing trainers from Hurik Town, and spread its name everywhere. Now that he was accepting residency at Pallet Town, he couldn't be a trainer from Hurik Town. But he could still spread its name everywhere.
"It's okay. I get it. It's Pallet Town. The safest place in all of Kanto, The Town of Champions. One would be crazy to turn down an offer to live at this place. Plus, I can see you really want to do this thing under Professor Oak. If you aren't a resident of Pallet Town, you can't work here, right" said Joseph.
Alex sighed with relief on hearing these words from Joseph. He was afraid he would be mad and their friendship would break.
While he liked to think him from his previous life was dominant, the assimilated memory of him from this life also affected him. Thus, he deeply cherished his childhood friend who was like a sibling, and Roger, who was like a father. He did not want either of these relationships to be broken.
"Well then! Good night Alex! I wish you all the best on this fellowship" said Joseph.
"Good night Joseph. I will accompany you as you get your starter Pokemon and send you off on your journey tomorrow" said Alex.
