It's been a couple of months since we left, and only now have I decided to write something down again. Well, a lot has happened after all, I guess a lot of things flew over my head ever since the party.
But now I can put it in, what happened on that day.
Nobody could predict what would happen, we knew Kyrell was doing something behind our backs, we just never knew it was to the extent he did. Going back to the days leading up to that event, I shiver at Kyrell's cunningness.
It started rather suddenly with Kyrell's cousin Goyoku stomping his feet into our front door demanding that Kyrell hand over the inn as he bought it. We didn't believe him at first, but once we were shown a piece of paper that basically detailed how Kyrell lost ownership of the inn, we were stunned. We didn't remember Kyrell ever signing any papers that would have handed the inn over, so it was clear that some strings were pulled, but no amount of searching was ever going to prove that it was all a lie.
I guess Kyrell knew that so rather than try to fight back against his cousin, he accepted his loss and plotted his plans.
Being close to him and his work, I thought I'd be able to see what he was up to, but he always focused on the inn whenever I or Coco-senpai were around. According to him, it was best to get everyone ready for the next part of their careers once Aelin would shut down, me and Coco-senpai were no exception.
It was a stressful endeavour with the only time of relaxation being the concert, but once that was done Kyrell doubled down on his work, going several nights without sleep to finish everything he needed to do.
Everyone noticed this and started to ask questions, but unfortunately nobody but Kyrell had answers.
Fast-forwarding a little bit, Kyrell finally came clean to everyone, least to say nobody took it well. Moreso his siblings who immediately tried to call their parents for help. But Kyrell told them not to bother since there wasn't going to be enough time and with no evidence it was going to be futile.
For days Kyrell was hounded by Kai-san with proposals and solutions, but all of them were shot down. It must've been hard, witnessing Kyrell just give up once again. I've talked to the siblings many times, and nearly every single story they had of Kyrell were all from distant memories.
I won't claim I understand their pain, so all I can do is record those events. Which brings me to that last week we had in Aelin.
We got invited to Kyrell's mother's birthday party, apparently, madame Sano wanted Hololive to be a part of the performance at the party and so invited Holoive and the siblings, plus me and Coco-senpai as plus twos.
Kyrell refused to go, mainly because his cousins and aunts were there. The others tried to convince him to come, guilt-tripping him or assuring him that they'll defend him from his rotten family. Yet nothing worked, we left and Kyrell stayed in the inn to finish work off.
Even if the party was full of people of higher class, and were clearly snobs, I still managed to enjoy it with the others. Kara-chan introduced us to her parents and I was in awe at how beautiful her mother was.
The twins definitely took after their mother's looks, gorgeous black hair with emerald eyes, whereas Kai-san and Kana-chan resemble more of their dad, fiery crimson hair and chocolate brown eyes.
Mrs Sano was delighted to speak to us, she told us about how the siblings sang our praises and how happy she was that Kyrell got new friends to look after him. All throughout our conversation, I could hear the tinge of guilt and sadness in her voice, something she shared with both the head of the house and Kyrell's siblings.
After a nice long chat with her, I regrouped with the others who were huddled away from the crowd. I don't blame them, the place was full of very high classed individuals and I guess they didn't really know how to interact with them. Not that we wanted to anyways, because I could hear whispers of how they were glad the "trash" wasn't there.
Honestly, I wanted to just grab a glass of punch and pour it over their arrogant heads or scream at the top of my lungs at how they're all scum for thinking that Kyrell was trash. But… I held back, I knew Kyrell would never want me to do that, if I did the backlash would land on him not me, so I bit my lip and enjoyed the party in my own way.
Alas, that joy only lasted for so long before an annoying face came strutting over to us with a punchable grin.
Goyoku didn't hesitate in talking smack when he saw us. He said that Kyrell finally realised how we were too good for him and let us go so that he could take us for himself. I wanted to just plunge my fist into his face when he said that, but he was saved when Kara-san came and ran him away from us.
Hours later everyone had finally arrived and settled in, everyone was ready to sing happy birthday to Mrs Sano and even do the gift opening part of the celebration. But a couple of voices then began to rumble outside the room, they were from the guards and they were saying:
"Young master?! You came?!"
"Sir, we didn't expect you to come!"
"We'll tell the madame right away… huh no need?"
"Wait young master!"
The doors then swung open and in came the last person anyone thought would ever step foot in the room. Kyrell.
Everyone was stunned upon his arrival, silence fell on the room as Kyrell just slowly made his way to his mother to seemingly greet her a happy birthday. But of course, he was cut off by Goyoku who wanted to talk down on him yet again.
How evil do you have to be to enjoy, belittling, cursing and spitting on another person's existence? It wasn't just that either, Goyoku even poured wine over Kyrell's head as he called him dirt, a reject, an embarrassing addition to the Sano name. Anything and everything that Goyoku could muster in his mind to torture Kyrell, he acted on without hesitation and Kyrell took it all without flinching.
Several of us tried to jump in and defend him, but Kara-san stopped us saying Kyrell looked different.
I looked closer at him and saw his rather uninterested look.
The torturing sight continued and it eventually escalated to just about everyone pitching in to insult and belittle Kyrell.
My blood boiled, and so did the others, we all couldn't take it anymore and was about to just go in there and shout at everyone. But all went silent the moment a small chuckle escaped Kyrell's lips.
His chuckle that echoed in the room stopped everyone in their tracks, glee turned to confusion and our anger dissipated momentarily. Kyrell then began to laugh the loudest laugh I've heard from him and I thought to myself, was Kyrell alright?
When he finally calmed down, he addressed Goyoku thanking him for a good time before passing by him and addressing his mother, wishing her a happy birthday and giving his gift to her.
His mother couldn't say a word, her son came home after some time, he gets humiliated and bullied in front of her and then he just walks up to her as if nothing happened. A lot of emotions may have been swirling inside her, causing her to not find the right words to say.
Whatever Kyrell told her next seemed to snap her out of it as she jolted out from her seat with wide eyes.
Kyrell then turned to everyone in the room and told everyone that he was grateful for housing a nobody like him and that he knew that he clearly overstayed his welcome in the family. He then pulled out a piece of paper and a lighter, which he revealed was his birth certificate.
From there everyone knew what was happening, we all told Kyrell not to do it, but he said nothing was going to make him change his decision, plus by then he had already erased all other traces of his existence from Earth, anything from mere signage to his actual records, such as his educational ones and even his ownership for Aelin. His birth certificate was the last thing he needed to erase, he then added that his act was his only selfish request from his family.
What an unfair guy, he knew that those who loved him would succumb to the idea that he was living for himself, so with a heavy heart we all stayed silent and let Kyrell ignite the last piece of his existence and throw it into the air where it became nothing but soot.
Once that was over, Kyrell said his goodbyes to his parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles for allowing him to stay with them for years, but now, they no longer had to bear the burden of having scum tarnish their family name.
The fact all of that was said with a smile, only makes it more painful. Kyrell, who has been told he was nothing all his life, could no longer find a way to be accepted, as such, he decided to instead sever his ties with them. He says it's for him, but really it's for his loved ones, the ones who still care about his pain, the ones who cried for him and got mad for him. His selfish desire was a mere afterthought, that's the type of person Kyrell is.
But I guess dwelling on such things will only pain me more than it will pain him. In the end, Kyrell managed to free himself from that lifelong torture and is currently the happiest he's been in years.
Plus it's not all bad news, once this journey of ours is finished we can return to Earth for short periods of time, though Kyrell isn't allowed to do anything in public due to his erased existence.
Still, this is for the best. I shouldn't dwell on the pain of the past and instead look forward to the joys of the future, because no matter what challenge may come our way, so long as we all have each other in our hearts, we can always move forward.
It's funny… I thought Kyrell was this amazing person who would never give up when the going went tough, but I wasn't right at all, he was just like me. He was just as broken, tired and fed up as I was when I first came to Aelin, the only thing that separated us was that he had to bear it for years and had learned to take it.
Still, it doesn't mean I don't admire Kyrell, because to me, broken or not, he's still my saviour, now till the end of time.
1 last conversation before the end.
Ooh boy, I feel bad making you all wait another week before closing this off for good. But you've all waited this long so I'm sure one more week won't hurt.
Anywho this was definitely one of the most interesting things to write about because at the start, I actually just thought that Kyrell should just get hired into Hololive, remember that question I put up? Yeah, that was me teasing the positions that Kyrell could potentially take after he stops working in Aelin... that aged, very poorly on my end. Because I didn't fully realise until I started on the final act, the full ramifications of this decision. It changed my plans drastically so I'm looking back now and thinking, "Wow, I went the complete opposite way."
I also thought to myself that I should write this either in a non-diary like entry just so I can really paint the full picture or do it as Kyrell because it's his story. But I chose Aloe because I felt like choosing Kyrell would've led to me writing it without that bittersweet feeling since Kyrell would be so focused on just completing the task, so I decided to pick Aloe instead, who would see it in its entirety with raw emotion. Plus I was thinking that it really reflects their journeys, where Aloe has progressed from her pain but Kyrell regressed back into his, complete opposite positions from the start of the story.
Now then, that's all for this week. Thank you all for reading the last entry of Caretaker of Hololive and I will see you all in the final conversations.
Oh by the way, I haven't forgotten my plan and promise to include the other branches, I'm just taking a detour is all.
