One of the security guards at the stage barrier reached for her, and she jumped into his arms; without putting her feet on the floor, he wandered back in the direction of the crowd. Lifting her back to the other side of the barrier, he set her down beside her friends before sauntering past her and had a word with another girl in the audience.
The rest of the show at the arena was incredible, and I felt that euphoric buzz of the last concert, where the fans seemed especially appreciative and responsive. It was the finale of six weeks away from home, knowing that the next day my girl and I could sleep late then I could take my family back home.
Craig and I did an acoustic version of the first song I'd written about Valerie, "You're The Rock n Roll I've Been Waiting For," and it made my heart melt to see Val standing alongside at the edge of the stage and mouthing every word.
