JAMES
The ambulance arrived a few minutes later and the paramedics attached all their things to me and hoisted me into a stretcher. To say I felt like an ass would be an understatement. I glared at Desi as they carried me past her. She knew as well as I did, they weren’t going to find anything wrong with me. I was freaking tired, but that was about it. Whatever she had done to bring me back from the In Between had healed the physical stuff. Too bad it didn’t erase any of the other things, like the truth of what I’d have to tell Miri about our future together.
Maybe Desi could do a mind-wipe on Miri or something and we could pretend we didn’t know anything about Helheimer or Asgard, the real Heaven and Hell. We could just live a regular life as humans, without any expectation of anything more. Except Miri would always believe in more.
