I sat with my polka-dot blanket wrapped around my shoulders and my hands wrapped around a steaming cup of hot chocolate. But I didn’t drink, I just stared at the steam rising in front of my face.

James downed two quick shots of espresso while li’Morl asked questions about Solange and her death.

“You have to help me have a proper vision.” I set my cup down on the coffee table. I didn’t have time for chocolat chaud. “Now.”

“It may not be that simple, my dear.” He placed his hand on my knee. “There are precautions we must take. I was foolish to speak of it so carelessly last night - the Others have already proven they can affect change in the physical world when they work together. You are in more danger than you realize. More danger than even I realized.”

I ignored James hovering near the kitchen, ignored the way his body hummed like a tightly wound guitar string.
