Chapitre 18: Chapter 18

"I'll set this as a wallpaper." Jill stated so seriously before disappearing in an instant.

Chess was not even given the chance to retaliate because Jill was no longer around. He's probably back on his post, watching the forest's entrance.

Chess just heaved a sigh before stepping inside the room, doing his duty as a class representative.

He scanned the place, counting their heads. There's Aoi beside him, there's also Cale, Syn and Reis whose hand is bandaged. Jill and Kane was outside, so all in all, they are all present.

Chess didn't really know what happened on the day that Aoi was unstable, but when they both came back, Reis's left hand was already bandaged and Aoi was back to normal.

Everyone acted normally so he also didn't ask anything.

Chess settled down in a vacant couch while his eyes are simply following Aoi. He watched him naturally approach Reis, reaching for his bandaged hand. Aoi's lips moved as if he was asking something and Reis just answered him with a sexy grin.

After that, Aoi came to sit beside him. This is what he's curious about…

Reis and Aoi's link seemed strong, but he can't really see them treating each other as friends. They are definitely not blood-related either, so what's their score? How do they manage to look so close yet so far?

But after thinking about it, maybe it's because of how they look at each other.

Even though they look at each other just like how you normally look at a stranger, you can't see even a tiny bit of doubt in their eyes. They look completely defenseless when they're with each other that it's catching his interest.

It's interesting how they manage to do that, so Chess couldn't really take his eyes off those two, especially when they're together.

When the clock struck 5, Prof stepped inside the room together with Kane and Jill. He scanned the area to see if everyone is present before marching towards the front, leaning his self on the table.

"It's good to see that everyone is present because we have a new order." Prof said that so randomly it took a while for the others to react.

Jill was the first to retort, groaning so loudly while settling himself in a couch. He even raised his foot on the opposite couch and rested his hand sideward.

"What is it again? Those geezers don't know how to stop… how can they make us work twice in the first week of class?" he grumbled while gritting his teeth.

"What can we do?" Prof answered casually, moving on to the discussion. "So, in this mission, I would like to send Reis and Syn. Cale would be supporting from here."

"What? Is it so hard we need to send Syn?" Kane asked, glancing at the sleeping Syn on the couch.

Chess also glanced at that person, realizing that he's not actually sleeping.

He's just closing his eyes like how he normally does. He never saw this person sitting nor standing. Whenever he sees him, it's either he's sleeping or just simply resting like now.

"Not really." Prof answered, shaking his head. "But I was planning to also send Chess, so it's better to have him around."

"What?" Kane, Jill and Aoi asked in unison. Even Reis lifted his brow.

Chess, who was the current center of attention, pointed to himself while giving Prof a questioning look.

"Me?"

But he thought he's going to be exempted from this class's activities as long as he accepted the class representative's position? What happened to that? Was the Prof actually just kidding when he told him that?

"Now, now, I'm not done talking yet." Prof chuckled, shaking his hands in front of his face. Prof pocketed his hands before tilting his head to give a glance at Chess. His stubbles are back so he's not that feminine anymore but still, he looked pretty in that angle.

"I'm not sending our class rep to join the mission… I'm jut sending him to watch and experience it. That's all." He answered calmly, looking very much like a respectable teacher.

Aoi was supposed to retaliate but he saw Chess nodding his head. He widened his eyes in disapproval before pulling Chess's sleeve. Chess turned to look at him.

"Why are you agreeing? It's dangerous." Aoi sounded so frustrated it made Chess laugh.

Aoi looked like a small child, preventing his Dad to go to his work. Because of that, Chess was suddenly reminded of the kids back in the orphan. He had unconsciously lifted his hand to pat Aoi's head, freezing him on the spot.

"I'm just going to watch, it's not that dangerous." Chess had also unconsciously used his gentle voice, making Kane, Reis and Jill turn to look at them.

Aoi, who was patted on his head, felt like he was being rewarded. His eyes shined like diamonds, looking at Chess like he somewhat turned into Santa Claus.

Chess noticed his actions and was slightly embarrassed, retracting his hand immediately. Aoi just smiled so widely, showing that he enjoyed that pat. Then, he turned to look at Reis, pointing towards his head.

Reis just rolled his eyes before glancing at Chess. His eyes looked extremely cold, making Chess laugh awkwardly.

There they go… these two definitely have something between them. If not, then how could he explain Reis's look? He was clearly jealous…

But still, they don't look close. Is it possible to have a relationship with someone you're not close to?

Before he could think deeper into it, Prof had already interrupted, clapping his hands three times.

"It will be performed on Sunday. Today, we'll only do the overview of the mission." He stated.

In that note, everyone turned serious. Prof joined them on the couch while Cale just turned his chair towards their direction, still holding on to his keyboard. The only person who didn't move an inch was Syn.

He remained in his sleeping position from the beginning to end. Even when his part was being discussed, he never opened his eyes nor his lips.

In the end, Prof got annoyed so he kicked the couch he's lying on and reprimanded him. At this point, Syn's finger had twitched.

Just that simple movement made Prof back down.

He laughed nervously while scratching the back of his head, saying, "Let's just don't mind him."

Jill mockingly laughed at him and that was the start of their useless discussion.

"You just have to do this… and then do that…"

"What this and that? Can't you make it clearer?"

"Just shut up! It's because you're noisy that I can't concentrate!"

Chess raised his hand to massage his aching temple.

He understood nothing… All he could hear is their arguing, loud enough to make his head hurt.

Because of that, he turned to look at Aoi, hoping to be enlightened about the mission.

"I understood everything!" Aoi answered so confidently, making Chess focus on him.

"Really? What did they say? I didn't understand a thing so I hope you can tell me." Chess politely asked of him.

He always thought that Aoi was like Jill, someone who is bad at listening. But it seems like he's wrong. At times like this, when he can't understand a thing, it looked like the only person he could rely on is Aoi.

Chess was fired up while thinking about that, but when Aoi parted his lips… the words he spoke was utterly… out of the topic.

"Prof said that when you go on a mission, it's good to bring candies—here, I'll give you one." Chess silently watched as Aoi took his hand and placed a tiny candy on top of his palm. "Then Jill said that it's much better to bring gums—here, I'll give you a bubblegum too." Next second, a gum was already placed in his palm, together with the candy.

After speaking, Aoi had flashed his cheeky smile while closing his palm. He looked extremely proud as he raised his chin, saying, "Next time, you should listen carefully. But it's better to just bring both. Okay?"

Chess just simply smiled, accepting Aoi's gifts even though he wasn't enlightened about anything. He understood nothing about the overview, and asking Aoi was also a mistake. It looks like he'll just have to ask the professor privately.

"That was all! You brats can get lost!" Prof had completely lost it.

He bolted up from his seat and marched towards the door. Jill also bolted upright, following behind Prof with that sarcastic look on his face.

"What? Are you angry? Huh?"

They started to argue again, their voices disappearing little by little. Chess just scratched his nose, laughing at those two's behavior.

It's the same every time.

Whenever they see each other, there's not even a second where they're not fighting. They argue over every little thing, filling the whole room with their shouts. In the end, they'd just forget about everything and starts to argue about a different topic.

It almost seemed like it's a routine. But, even though they argue every single time, they never had any serious fights. Even between the other members.

That's one of the things that Chess finds interesting.

They may always be yelling, trashing each other, but they never ended up fighting for real. It makes him think about what would happen if they actually had a real fight…

It's something that he's actually looking forward to.

'It might be fun', he thought.
