Chapitre 58: Chapter 58: She Argues with Stone

Jake put a hand on her arm. “Listen to what they have to say.”

“Why? They let a dangerous criminal take my son.”

“He’s not dangerous. The crimes we want him for are mostly white collar,” Stone interjected.

“Kidnapping and arson?”

Stone put up his hands. “He has no history of violence.”

She moved closer to Stone. “He left you for dead in a burning building.”

He spoke quietly and it reminded her of how she spoke to Max after a bad dream. “We’ve been watching him for years. He’s never done anything like that before today. He’s desperate.”

“And has my child.”

“I truly believe he won’t hurt Max,” Stone said.

Chelsea eyed him. “That’s not a lot of consolation at this point.”

Jake took a hold of her shoulders and turned her to face him. “We can place blame later. Let’s work on getting Max back to us.”

She stared at him. The rain drummed on the room’s skylight. Max was out in that rain. She let a noisy breath escape and melted back into the chair. “Go ahead.”
