The next morning didn't get any better, Max left their house early in the morning for work, and Trevor didn't get to see him. He didn't even take his lunch box making his boyfriend sad because he thought Max was really upset.
While he was going to college, he couldn't help but sigh all along the way. He didn't sleep well, he had big bags under his eyes and looked like his soul had left his body. Everybody looking at Trevor that day couldn't help to wonder what was happening to him.
He found that he really was a conflicted person. All he wanted now was to do everything he could to make Max happy, to make him smile and feel good when he was with him, but every time, he was also the one who always hurt him.
At the end of class, Sammy couldn't help but ask what was wrong with him, because he was so lost that even their professor had noticed.
"Hey Trevor, what's wrong? Did my cousin bully you yesterday?"
Trevor, who was lying lifeless on the desk looked at her with tired eyes, "No he didn't. Why don't you think I was the one bullying him?"
"You're right ... You're definitely going to be the one bullying him!" Said Sammy confidently.
"Why?"
"Because Max is the submissive type... What I mean by that is that with the people he loves, he tends to be Mr. Ok. With me, for example, when I do something wrong, he scolds me, but he also gives me what I want... You know what I mean? So I can't imagine what he's like with you, being so in love ..."
Trevor just sighed deeply, he had already noticed that part of Max's personality and he used it to do what he wanted because he knew he wouldn't say anything or he might say something but not push the issue too far. Sometimes he wanted him to be angry at him, to let out how he felt, he wanted the real Max. He knew he could be an asshole sometimes and he wanted Max to address his misbehaviour. They really should take some more time to talk, he thought.
"So, what's bothering you?" asked Sammy again.
"We had a little fight last night and I still don't really know how to deal with it."
"Max is easy, talk to him and show him you care... And everything will be okay" Sammy smiled at his friend who had lost his smile.
"Doesn't seem so easy," Trevor sighed again.
Sammy was patting him on the head when Lina joined them. You could see on Sammy's face that she wasn't the happiest to see her, and it didn't escape Trevor's notice that she was frowning deeply. Lina didn't seem to notice Sammy's coldness, or she acted like she didn't notice it.
"Hey guys, have you heard the new gossip yet?"
Sammy and Trevor just looked at her without saying a word, indicating they didn't know.
"Someone said Max has a lover, do you know anything about that?" She asked with a grim look.
Trevor winced a little when he heard that, frowning worriedly that they had been found out. Sammy saw this and signaled with her head for him to calm down.
"That's not really news, Max has had many lovers!" replied Sammy, a little bored.
"No, this time it means he's been in a real relationship for a few months already... Did you know anything about that, Trevor?" She asked, and her eyes met Trevor's
"Well, he hasn't brought anyone home since I live there, so I don't know," Trevor shrugged.
"I bet it's wrong! I mean, maybe he's just tired of having sex here and there and decides not to do it anymore. He's going to take control of KLAYNE Corp soon, maybe he just knows it's time for him to stop fooling around and have sex with other people every night," she said, proud of her explanation.
Trevor just nodded, not wanting to disappoint Lina, who convinced herself of her reasoning and thought that Max hadn't actually stopped, he was still having sex every night, just that it was only with one guy! Max had actually really calmed down, he thought, letting out a small smile. He realized that Max had changed his lifestyle for him for a long time now.
That night at home, not much had changed since last night. When Trevor arrived home, Max was eating his lunch that he had forgotten in the morning.
"Hey..." said Trevor, sitting down in front of Max.
"Hey ... I forgot my lunch this morning..." Max said, not really knowing what to talk about.
"Hmm... Is it good?" Trevor asked, knowing that Max would always say it was good, even if he knew that what he had cooked wasn't the best.
"As always, it's delicious," Max replied with a smile.
They didn't talk much that night, each of them doing something else on their side, Max passing the time in his study while Trevor was in his old room, busy drawing.
That evening, Gina had called Trevor to tell him that they should come to the family home for dinner the next weekend. She had made it clear to Trevor that it was not an option, but an order, and that they should come together.
At first Trevor wanted to decline, knowing that Max and he were still in their little cold phase, but Gina didn't give him a choice.
When it was time to sleep, Trevor wanted to just go to his old bedroom and sleep there, but something told him that wasn't a wise decision. But he felt really uncomfortable lying next to Max and not hugging him or with Max not playing with his hair like he liked to do.
'Why don't you hug him yourself?" A little voice in his head asked him... 'It's none of your business,' Trevor replied, cursing himself. 'You're just afraid he'll reject you!' The voice rang out again, 'just peter out!'.
Max seemed to notice Trevor frowning and couldn't help but ask, "Are you okay?"
A little startled by Max's question, Trevor looked at him with a small smile "I'm fine... Oh yeah, I almost forgot mother wants us to go out to dinner with them this weekend."
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why?" asked Trevor, already overreacting and thinking it was because Max didn't want them to be together.
"When Mom asked you to go to dinner, it's rarely a simple dinner," Max explained, seeing the disappointment in Trevor's eyes.
Trevor just nodded, not understanding what Max was trying to say.
"You'll see when we get there, don't say I didn't warn you ...!" Max added
Trevor tried to sleep, but it wasn't that easy, he tossed and turned trying his best not to wake up the man next to him.
"It seems like you can't sleep? Are you okay?" Max asked as he woke up and looked at Trevor.
"I'm sorry I woke you up ... I'm having a hard time sleeping today..." Trevor confessed.
"Do you want a hug?"
Trevor hesitated a little before nodding, Max opened his arms with a smile and let his pheromones out. Trevor unceremoniously dove into his strong arms and took a deep breath as Max's pheromones calmed his nerves and he was soon fast asleep.
Max just smiled and looked at the man in his arms and gave him a light kiss on his forehead.
