Chapitre 19: Sammy
Trevor was taken aback by Sammy's demand. If he had to describe Sammy's thoughts about Max, he would say that she doesn't like him, or more precisely that she doesn't give a damn about him. She doesn't talk about him like the other people in the university, she really isn't interested in him and she had even warned him not to get too close to him in the beginning. And now she was asking him to take good care of him, Trevor was really confused now.
He looked at Sammy with one eyebrow raised, and doubt showed all over his face. Sammy just chuckled, looking at Trevor being so confused.
"Okay, I won't confuse you anymore. Max is my cousin, our mothers are sisters ..."
"Really!!? ... Well, that could explain a lot of things ..." Trevor had wondered why people in her class were afraid of her, or why Max indulged her when she sat with them to eat their lunch, now he had his answer. But now he was more curious about why Sammy was so cold to her own cousin and didn't seem to like him. Sammy interrupted his train of thought, knowing her friend was a deep thinker.
"Now you're probably wondering why I'm so indifferent to him and why we don't seem to talk much?"
"Um," Trevor just nodded and waited for his friend to continue.
"Well, it's just a ruse, we're actually very close ... We got into this masquerade because in high school, I was constantly being harassed by people asking me to help them here and there, asking me to help them to seduce Max... And my own relationships didn't last long because people only approached me because of my background" she explained simply.
Trevor was relieved when he heard this. He had imagined many dire scenarios about a family quarrel or whatever you see in those Asian dramas where people from the same family fight over the family inheritance.
"Oh ... I can imagine how you felt ... I guess it's a good arrangement for the two of you, but it seems like people in our class know? I mean, they seem afraid of you ..." Trevor wondered how he should feel about that. Now that he knew this secret, he didn't want to cause any mishap.
"Well, that was part of our plan too ... You know, in freshman year we did a little show, Max and I in the school cafeteria. I got into an argument with him and Max didn't respond like he always does, he backed down and said we should stop the argument because he didn't want to be blamed by his mom. So people started speculating that we're kind of close, but they don't really know in what way we're close, they even speculate that I was his fiancee" She laughed.
"Oh, I see ... well, I'm glad to know that you don't actually hate each other..." Trevor grinned at her friend, pleased that she was even closer to him than just being a friend.
"Why are you so happy? Because I'm your sister-in-law," Sammy teased Trevor with a grin and a raised eyebrow, looking as beautiful as ever.
Trevor just chuckled. "Well, I'm glad I already have a good relationship with my sister-in-law."
"So you're his expected mate? This story is so fucking great, like those romantic stories we read in books with unexpected encounters," she said all excited and giggling like a little girl imagining all sorts of plots in her head.
"Why are you so excited? You really looked like a little girl when we are hanging out just the two of us, while in class you looked so aloof, just like your cousin," Trevor laughed at the change in his friend's personality.
"Well... don't change the subject Mr. ...you have to tell me everything that has happened between you two so far, how did you get together? I take it you only confirmed your relationship two days ago?" Sammy was a busybody, but she really wanted to know her little story.
She had grown up with Max and knew all his struggles very well, and his sad life always made her sad too. She wanted her beloved cousin to find love and happiness because he deserved that. It was true that his sex life was messy, but he was a really good guy, she was actually proud to be his cousin.
Trevor just smiled at his friend's eagerness. To be honest, he also wanted to share his story with someone who could be there for him when he needed someone to talk to or to give him advice, and something told him Sammy would be a really good friend.
He then proceeded to tell Sammy everything that had happened from the day he came back until the day Max and him got together.
"So you're not that eager to have found your mate?" Sammy asked as Trevor told her his hesitation and all his worries about the whole situation.
"Well, at first I didn't expect to have one someday. In my mind, my future life was lonely because of my illness. So when Dr Clyde told me all the mate stuff, I was overwhelmed. It hadn't even been a month since I met Max, and he told me that it was our destiny to be together... And after seeing everything my mom has been through, I don't really believe in the bright side of the bonding and mate stuff," Trevor explained.
"So you guys are just boyfriends...no marking...no bonding?" Sammy asked a little shocked, but still she could understand Trevor, being careful when it came to love was a good thing. Bonding with someone is for life after all.
"Yeah, for now, I asked Max if we can think about it later when our relationship is more stable," Trevor confessed.
Sammy just smiled. "At list, you see him in your future, that's all for me."
Sammy and Trevor talked some more about their lives until she suggested him to go out for a drink before they go home. Trevor hesitated a little, it was getting late and he had to cook for Max and him before Max got back home.
"I don't know if it's a good idea, I have to cook for Max..." Trevor said his cheek becoming red.
"Look at you taking care of your man ..." Sammy teased, taking him by the hand and driving him toward his car.
"Well, he is my man after all, so I should take good care of him too," Trevor replied without being the least bit shy smiling lovely.
"Yeah Yeah, People in love are really boring... but tonight we're going out! come on, let's go, Max won't kill you" Sammy whined sitting in the car.
