“We’re going to have a big night tonight,” Blake glanced sideways at Shasta as they pulled into the lodge’s long driveway. “I want you to take a nap.”

Shasta glanced at him. “Seriously? I’m twenty-three years old. I don’t need a nap.”

Blake stopped the Suburban and removed the aviator shades. “What was that, kitten?”

She worked her mouth for a few nanoseconds before sound came out. “Well, I just mean… Seriously? A nap?”

“You just earned ten stripes.”

“But…”

“Wanna go for twenty?”

Shasta huffed, crossing her arms. “No, Daddy.”

“That’s better.” He continued driving to the clearing behind his cabin.

They took their purchases into the house. Blake disappeared into the bedroom and reemerged a moment later carrying a small duffel bag. “Now, Bear and I are going to run an errand. You take a nice nap, and we’ll see about playing with our new things tonight.” He kissed her on the nose and left with the dog following along happily behind him.
