Chapitre 32: A Chance At Immortality

"I love you!", says Dela to Gorak's face in a hushed, rushed tone.

Gorak freezes in place, his smirk turning into shock as he cannot believe his ears.

"W-What??!"

______

What did he just hear? He must have heard wrong, right? It wasn't loud enough... he must be grossly mistaken.

"What did you say?", he questions Dela in response, attentively.

Dela's heart trembles within her, all her previously summoned courage gone once again. He wanted her to say it again?

*Ba-Thump! Ba-thump! Bathump!*

Her heart starts wildly palpitating. She can't bear to look into his eyes anymore, so she sheepishly turns away once again as she mutters the words:

"I-I... I said I... that-that I... I... that I...

...I love you."

Her words, though low and stuttered are more audible now. Gorak cannot doubt them anymore. He had heard right!

"..."

Standing speechless, Gorak straight up turns to stone and cracks from sheer shock.

"I know it sounds crazy, and I might have gone insane, but... I do love you in truth..."

Embarrassed, Dela raps on, nervously entwining her fingers as she tries to explains her feelings.

"It's alright if you choose to reject me. I mean, you have no obligation to be with me. You are a god, after all, whereas I am human, so ultimately, this would lead nowhere... and it makes no sense to even say it, I don't even know why I'm saying this now, but-but we just... last night, and I just... I just felt I had to say it..."

Hearing nothing from Gorak, and still looking away in absolute embarrassment thinking about last night, Dela is overcome with the anxiety of being rejected, and so she keeps talking without stopping; her nerves acting up.

"I... I don't even know how I came to have these feelings for you, whom I should, and did detest, ...and I know it might get things a little awkward, but I just feel so strongly that I have to at least... just put it out th-"

Her rapid, incoherent speech is abruptly cut off in an unexpected kiss from Gorak. He kisses her deeply, slowly and meaningfully.

...

'He didn't reject me?', Dela wonders, shocked at first by the kiss.

The kiss lingers on for a short while, during which the agitated Dela receives her calm. Grateful, she throws herself into it, kissing back in soft rythm until Gorak breaks it off.

Taking Dela's face in his hand, he brushes her cheek with his thumb and presses against her bouncy, plush bottom lip affectionately; a tender look in his eyes.

"I love you too."

Dela can see clearly from his passionate, sparkling silver eyes that he means what he is saying. Still...

'What?! How? Why? When?

He was serious with his advances this whole time?'

Dela found it hard to believe that Gorak actually cared for her in truth because she thought he was just toying with her, as his plaything. She never once imagined that he was seriously having feelings for her.

Gorak keeps speaking;

"I did right from the moment I found you. It's why I captured you."

"W-What?!", asks Dela out loud, confused.

'Hold on. The day he was staring at me on the battlefield. The day I was captured... It was love? I was captured and made a prisoner because of love???' Dela is bewildered.

"Wait. Hold on.", she voices her amazement, stopping Gorak for a moment to try to process what he is saying.

"You're saying that you loved me the moment you saw me, and that was why you captured me on the battlefield, bound me up in chains and held me prisoner??!", she asks Gorak.

"Precisely.", Gorak responds with confidence, obviously finding nothing wrong with it at all.

"What the h**l is wrong with you? Who does that? Seriously, who does that?!", responds Dela in disbelief, astounded by Gorak's reasoning.

Really, who does that in the name of love?

"Look, it was the only way.", Gorak defends.

"We're fated to be lovers for all of eternity. If I didn't do that, you may have died out on the battlefield and I would have to search for your soul again through all the millions and billions of realms existent.", Gorak explains.

"Some only find their fated once through all eternity and then never again. I did that so I could protect you. And also give us a chance. And it worked! Hehe...", Gorak chuckles, smug.

Mouth agape, Dela is beyond surprised. An awkward sweat drop hangs over the side of her head.

"I've been living a lie... I've been deceived! I should have known.", Dela responds dramatically.

"Hey... you realised we were fated and fell for me all on your own. It's fate. Now we love each other, we can be together forever", says Gorak cheerfully, calming Dela by embracing her in one hand with a pat on her shoulder.

'Together forever...', mused Dela, still finding it hard to believe.

Normally, some would be freaked out to hear such damningly obsessive words, but she actually wanted to be with Gorak forever. She was that much in love with him so she liked the ring of it, but...

Why her of all people, of all species and beings? Why not a fellow god? She was just human.

"Are you sure I'm your fated? 'Fated' is what you call it right?", she asks Gorak.

"Yes. And yes.", answers Gorak, patiently waiting for all the information to sink into Dela's brain, and eager to answer every question to make her understand their situation better.

'No... it can't be. It can't be, can it?', Dela still has difficulty believing her ears.

It was just too much. She was just herself, Dela. Regular human princess growing up. Queen of Angyura.

Nothing out of order or specially significant had happened to her at all until the day of her capture. Her life had been normal. She didn't even have any superpowers.

She was just a great warrior and battle strategist, a conqueror and ruthless slayer of men. Due to the hardship of the times, she had found that was what it took to conquer, and so she became that. Apart from that, there was nothing else out of the ordinary about her. So how was she fated to be with a god?

Weren't gods meant to be with goddesses?

Turning to question Gorak seriously, Dela voices her uttermost concern.

"But-But... I'm human. And you're a god. I won't exist for all of eternity. How then?-"

Aha! Gorak had been patiently for this question.

"Which is why I'm training you. I plan to make you into an immortal Guardian once your training is done, and you are capable of bearing powers.", he smiles confidently.

He had been preparing the ultimate surprise gift for his mortal fated without her knowledge... Immortality!
