Whats Done in the Dark
Sitting in the WatchTower watching the sunlight slowly permeate the earth all of the higher ups of OverWatch were sitting at a table. Amadeus Cho, Ororo Monroe, Natalia Romanova, Selene Gallio, James Howlett, Amara Aquilla, Jean Grey and I were all sitting in silence after Jean told us what went through General Ross' mind.
The rest of the team were either treating their injuries or still on active duty. The mood was cold and sullen. Ross was working with Trask, and Essex. How did i even forget about The Leader. I feel my anger explode as i slam my fist in the table leaving a dent. Hmmm i guess Nat is getting tired of replacing them.
"Jean, where are they?" i ask gritting my teeth. Nat puts her hands on my thigh in a futile attempt to appease my anger, yet nothing can stop me from raging. "We cannot allow them to complete those robots."
"What's the worse that could happen? They show up and we put them down same as usual" Logan sneered with his claws out.
"Logan its more serious than that," Cho explained "Based on what Jean said these things are designed to hunt and kill metahumans. If they set them loose and it pulls a skynet on us then what? We have an army of robots that will attack and kill everyone. At the end of the day meta humans are still very human."
"At the very least we need to stop this meta registration. If they do this that means anyone with simple powers like adjusting their height at will to causing tsunamis will all have to be registered. That leads to a list with everyones names and powers being available to anyone with the right clearance level" Ororo added.
I took the chance to take control of the conversation and add "You guys are thinking too small. If that bill gets passed then that means OverWatch will have our identities publicized. No normal lives for anyone. If a house fire breaks out for no reason down the street every pyrokinetic meta in the area will be pulled and questioned. Seclusion from schools, sports, olympics as laws change to accommodate us. And what of the ones who don't register. Then their very existence becomes a crime. We need to get on top of this now."
The room turned serious but that still didnt prepare me for what happened next. Our table lit up as an emergency broadcast was held and sent around the world right now.
"Good evening citizens of Earth. My name is Robert Kelly and I'm currently a U.S. Senator running for president next election. I apologize for disrupting your days, but i need to talk about a very serious topic. Mutants. For years now people that our good police cannot handle have been running around wreaking havoc with the gifts they were born with."
The scene cuts out to an overhead shot of a few landscapes where fights between metas happened ending off at the battle we just had today.
"Normally we'd be useless in these situations occur but thankfully we have the organization known as OverWatch. These young heroes sacrifice their livelihoods scrounging the globe to keep it safe. Which is why i believe it is time we do ours. This year at the U.N. world meeting i an proposing the Mutant Registration Act. Countless lives have been lost due to us being one step behind at all times. This bill will make it so that those who are gifted will be able to learn to use their abilities for the betterment of mankind. Im making the proposal to help limit the number of people who die everytime a young mutant catches aflame in his sleep or a titan tears through a city on a temper tantrum. How many of you have lost loved ones. Friends, Family. But no more, once this act goes up all Mutants will be mandated to go through training to harness and control their gifts. My good friend Dr. Nathaniel Essex was kind enough to help me by creating a device that can tell if someone has a mutant ability whether dormant or active. He has been coordinating with U.S. general, Thaddeus Ross to currently help young mutants and contain those who abuse their powers. So mutants i ask of you to please help us help you. You are part of our people and we want to be able to live together. Please consider that when it comes time to vote. Thank you and God Bless you my fellow humanity." The scene then showed a screen of Ross and Essex standing behind him as it
Seeing Ross next to them i jump from my seat and pull up the footage of cellblock H-19 only to find a gooey red puddle. Dammit, no news copters, no footage of the fight, and now no bad guy to blame for the destruction.
I get up from my seat and i walk over to the door headed for the warp, barely controlling my anger.
"Where are you going?" asked Natalia
"Im off to see a friend. That bastard got us good by pretending to be on our side, but that's not an issue. Cho tell Forge i want that city self sustaining by the end of the year. Selene i want you to work on sending the Savage Lands to one of the uninhabited continents of Mars. Let it run wild there. Ororo, Logan i want you guys doubling your efforts to find metas, we need to start finding them faster and start sending some of them up to the city. Natalia i want Raven in this office before the day is out. She is not and i repeat NOT allowed anywhere outside. If they get her hyper malleable DNA then we're screwed."
I dont wait for answers as i walk through the tightly shut door as if it were paper. Man i really feel like hitting something right about now.
Bonus Scene 1
Nick Fury was frowing his brows real hard right about now. That broadcast was sent around the world and he knew it was about to cause a huge shit storm amongst Metas causing them to retaliate further driving home the point Trask was making.
"Sigh, i can explain," Nick said to the seemingly empty office, but just then a figure walked through. A figure that had saved his agents on multiple occasions. A figure most children had an action figure for.
"Then explain Nick, what the hell is that crap and how long have you known."
"I've known for a few months now, i tried to-" but he was cut off as a hand grabbed his desk and pulled it sending it effortlessly into the wall splintering his favorite desk.
"MONTHS! YOU KNEW HE WAS PLANNING THIS SHIT FOR MONTHS AND DIDNT TELL ME!"
"I was afraid of you overreacting to your anger. Now tell me Invincible was i wrong to assume that?"
"You know good and damn well what he wants to do. He wants to weaponize us and you couldnt be bothered to tell us because you were afraid Id get upset????" Nick just let him vent and then take a deep breath before saying "Where is he hiding Nick."
"I dont know." Invincible clenched his fist and then release it before walking over to the door.
"You better find him Fury, because if i do..." Invincible didn't finish his sentence but Fury knew what it meant. He watched the overpowered young man leave the room before calling his best agent Sharon Carter to look into Trask and anything he's connected to. They needed to find the senator fast, or else no one would be able to stop the missile he just launched on himself.
Bonus Scene 2
Eric Stevens was a bit shocked seeing the news and what happened. He had been living underground with a group of runaways and fugitives that he found.
"Eric so what do we do now?" asked Evan the average height blonde man with boney armour covering his body.
He weighed all of his options and started thinking. If he heads to Wakanda now then they'd get caught up with all of the Mutant hunting bullshit.
"We wait. Lets see what HE does first, then we move out. I want to get a few more people before we head to Wakanda."
"What are we gonna do if they find us first?" asked Nico Minoru the gothic asian chick.
"If they come, we send em back in pieces. We take care of ours first. My little cousin taught me that."
The group all nodded and headed back into their respective areas of their hideout. Even if it wasnt what was expected, it was theirs, and they'd be damned if some Senator came and told them they needed to leave.
Bonus Scene 3
Eric wasn't having a good day. Raven hasn't been heard from in weeks and now this shit. The Senator was playing a risky game and soon he'd learn. His machine was almost ready and soon everyone would be mutants whether they like it or not. But first,
"Wanda, Pietro take Sabertooth, Blob, Avalanche, and Cain. Go show that Senator exactly what happens when he crosses the brotherhood."
Pietro was about to speak but he found his mouth blocked by an unknown red-black energy and glared at Wanda who was already heading out the door to gather their members.
Pietro just shrugged and zoomed out of the room. Eric turned his attention to Remy Lebeau and told him "Gambit use your connection to Essex and ask him what's his endgame, i refuse to believe he would openly side with this Senator unless he had something in it."
Remy just nodded and left humming some weird french song as Eric rubbed his temples. What in the world is happening so close to his plan fruition? AND WHERE IN THE WORLD IS RAVEN?
