"What's wrong?" Scarlet asked when Amethyst fell silent after reading the first part of the story.
"Nothing, just I suddenly felt as if I was in the world she was in. A monotonous world but was contented enough that I enjoy my time despite it being a repeated one," Amethyst couldn't help but say.
Something tugged in her heart as she read it.
"Really? I was actually thinking of something else when I was writing it," Scarlet replied while tilting her head to the side.
"Well, since I was able to picture the scenario that you want to portray, it is indeed a very good start," Amethyst shrugged it off and said.
Scarlet smiled, "Yeah, that's what I think as well. I'm glad you think the same way."
"What do you plan from now on then? The next places to go to are already few. I am planning to go to mount Pulag for the last place and I guess Asin resort for second to the last."
"Asin resort?" Scarlet was baffled.
"You want everything to be in one place, Baguio as the final one. There are falls surrounding this place but if we base it in your story I think a resort is better. But if you think not, then I can check out places with falls," Amethyst explained.
Scarlet thought for a bit, she reflected on the flow of story that she wants.
There were places with people she went to like Boracay and Cebu, even Tagaytay, places her grandmother had been to.
They each have places where there are people and she is planning on including these little details to the story.
"I think it is not that bad," she finally said.
"Very well, but if you have other thoughts, you have to tell me. There are more places we could be," Amethyst told her.
She was saying this as she looked at her notes, if a story is about different places. The best thing to do is to go to these places and experience it yourself.
As a writer, she haven't done this in the past that she chose not to use too much real places and most of the time, she uses made up places for her stories.
This is the first time she actually did this and she felt that it wasn't bad at all.
Her getting into character have improved a lot as well.
When she heard no more response from Scarlet she looked up, "Scarlet?"
She found her staring at her with a gentle smile on her face.
"Your complexion has improved a lot," Scarlet said.
Amethyst touched her cheek, "Could it be because I am sleeping early?"
Scarlet could only giggle, "That's not what I meant, you look living now."
Amethyst was lost for words at first before she smiled happily, reaching the depths of her eyes, "It is wonderful to feel alive again."
She didn't decline the fact that Scarlet's words indicate that she looks like she wasn't living in the past. Because it wa she truth. she was like a zombie just going on with her life. Letting the time flow with whatever it wants.
This time she finally found the courage to do what she wants again, to follow the dream she wants.
Amethyst turned serious, there is a question she once asked Slate but he didn't said anything.
"I once asked Slate a question," she started.
Scarlet looked at her with her eyes inquiring what it was.
"He didn't answer and I guess I really am curious," she continued.
"Go on."
Despite saying this, Scarlet somehow had the feeling she knew what Amethyst had asked her brother. Because there is only one topic his brother brushes off every time it was asked.
"Your family, are there only the two of you? You also don't have to answer if you don't want to. I just thought of asking you," Amethyst finally asked as she scratch her cheek.
"I can answer that, Slate is just, how should I put it, he just stopped thinking about them being our family. And since you have told us about yourself, I guess it is just right that I answer this question of yours."
Amethyst listened carefully.
She asked this not because she was just curious but because she wants to know how she should act when it comes to these things. She wants to know and be able to move and act without hurting them in this topic.
"Our parents had divorce when we were just in elementary. Our mother's parents, basically our maternal grandparents are the ones who took us in. Our grandmother was a Filipina and so we are one fourth Filipinos," Scarlet informed her.
"No wonder both of you looks like you have foreign blood. I didn't mean it in a bad way," Amethyst exclaimed.
Scarlte giggled, "It is fine, a lot was asking about our features but you are the first who actually spent time with us so long before asking. Anyway..."
Scarlet smiled with a tinge of sadness, "Our grandparents died when I just graduated from high school. After that I decided to stop and start working. It was around the third year of Slate in university that I started writing."
"So you are the one who helped him on his university," Amethyst commented.
"Well, he too, helped himself by being a scholar. So it wasn't exactly hard to send him to school. Though other expenses are pretty difficult. And because of everything we experienced, Slate no longer sees our parents as our family."
Amethyst remained silent.
"Do you feel sorry for us?" Scarlet couldn't help but ask.
"No."
Her straight answer shock Scarlet.
"I didn't mean it in a bad way, but that I too have my circumstances and it is pretty bad if you ask me. So feeling sorry for other people's cases while not for my case, I don't know, I guess it is not my thing? Since I am not sorry to myself I don't feel sorry for others."
Scarlet didn't know what to reply.
"I mean, you lived and did your best in everything to continue living, should I feel sorry for all your efforts? Wouldn't that just be an insult?"
Scarlet, who was shock at first, started laughing.
"Hey, why are you laughing?" Amethyst asked with a bit of a pout.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Most people who found out about our past would feel sorry for us. But you were right, we lived and we did everything we could and everything we want and kept living. It is indeed an insult to see people feeling sorry because we have no parents as if our efforts were nothing," Scarlet agreed to her.
Amethyst smiled, "Both of you grew up well and that is enough proof that you lived properly no one should feel sorry about you."
"It is time for your medicine just what are you talking so seriously that you didn't notice the knock at all."
Another voice interrupted them and when they turned to look, it was Slate with a nurse behind him.
They have informed everyone to knock at Scarlet's room first and wait for an answer before answering, unless she was alone.
This is because Amethyst and Scarlet are talking about her new novel that others shouldn't hear about.
"About life?" Amethyst replied as she stood up to make way fro the nurse.
Her answer made Slate frown while Scarlet giggled.
"Whatever," was his answer before leaving.
He was called because no one was answering to the knock. It may be too special a treatment but this was Scarlet's wish and she was not causing trouble that no one complained.
"I'm sorry about your knock," Amethyst then said to the nurse when he left.
"Me too, I apologize for not hearing it," Scarlet followed.
"It is alright."
