Under his closed eyelids, Zeir took great pleasure in relishing that scent. It smelled like home and he felt as if he was in the nest when he cracked his egg and went out of it. How peculiar to find this in a foreign world and coming from a human nonetheless.

The woman's other hand stroked his head, her fingers inside his silver fur. Zeir would never have thought that a human's touch could be so delightful and throw him into a sea of bliss. Or was it just her?

When she rose to her feet, letting go of his head, Zeir opened his eyes to meet the unsettling gaze of the single mustard eye. The woman invited him to follow. "You must be hungry. Let's go and take care of your stomach first."
