"Can I ask you a question?" I ask him.
"Sure." He gives me a quick glance before he looks at the road again.
The kiss that happened back there, I didn't know how to explain it. It was sweet, nice and all things in between.
But I have to say, it was also my first kiss.
"What's really going on between you and Nicholas?" I ask him.
Their situation has been really pegging me for the last few months and I couldn't get it out of my head.
"What's going on between Hart and I?" He repeats and I nod. "What do you mean?" He asks.
"From what I hear, you two were friends."
"Ah. We were good pals."
"What then happened?"
He shrugs. "Something came between us. We had a fight and then drifted apart. It became worse when he lost his girlfriend and-"
"Wait." I interrupt him. "Lost his what?"
*********
"Thanks for today." I say to him as we reach the front door.
He puts his hands in his pocket. "It's my pleasure."
"You know, you are much more fun than people paint you to be."
"Shush. I don't want the word to spread." He says and I laugh.
The first real laughter I have had in days.
"It's good to see you laugh." He says suddenly and I clear my throat.
"Thanks again for today." I smile at him.
"No problem."
"I should head inside. I'll see you later."
"Bye sweetie." He says and I walk inside.
I rest on the door for some seconds before I finally stood upright and walked to my room to have a long shower.
...
I laid on my bed, eyes wide open in the middle of the night thinking about what Miles told me.
**
"Lost his what?" I ask him.
"His girlfriend. Didn't he tell you?" He looks at me again briefly before turning back to the road.
Nick had a girlfriend?
"After we had a fight, he lost his girlfriend and it made things worse."
"How worse?" I ask
"Let's just say, from being best friends, we turned to worst enemies."
**
Why would Nicholas hate Miles even more after he lost his girlfriend?
That's the moment you need your best friend right? When you are sad and you need someone to talk to.
"You couldn't do anything about Elsa, so I don't see how she's different."
The words Miles said during their fight in the cafeteria suddenly came rushing to me back.
No way.
I grab my phone from the bedside table and dialled Chloe's number.
She picks on the fourth ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey hi Chloe." I say in a rush.
"What's up?" She asks.
"Sorry for calling you this late but I wanted to ask a question."
"Fire away."
I didn't know how to ask her the question but I knew I had to ask her one way or the other.
"Did Nick ever have a girlfriend?"
"Yeah he did." She says.
"What happened? He doesn't look like he has one."
"No honey you're mishearing my words. He doesn't have a girlfriend now, he did then."
"So what happened?" I sit upright.
"They broke up."
They broke up?
They broke up..
They broke up...
But why did Miles tell me....
"Do you know why they broke up?" I ask her.
"Nick didn't say. I just know one day, he stopped talking about her. I asked what happened between them, he said they broke up. Nothing more."
"Was it the same time he and Miles fought?" I ask again.
"Yeah, it was. Shortly, like really shortly after they fought, Nick and his girlfriend broke up."
Wow.
"Can you by chance tell me her name?"
"Sure. Elsa. Her name is Elsa."
Elsa.
Elsa...
"You couldn't do anything about Elsa, so I don't see how she's different."
Those words again rings in my ear.
Immediately Nick heard her name then, he became triggered.
Maybe he's still hung up on her.
"Why are you asking?" Chloe interrupts my thoughts.
"I heard some rumors that he has a girlfriend and of course because I know he doesn't, I was curious to know if he ever had one." I lie.
"Well he did. And Raven, I love you and all, but I need my beauty sleep." She yawns at the end of the line.
I chuckle. "Yes yes. I'll let you go now."
"Thank you o master. Your kindness is well appreciated." She says and hangs up.
Now I know Nick truly had a girlfriend. What I want to know now is why he and Miles fought, and why he and Elsa broke up right after his fight with Miles.
Did he catch them together, or is there more to the story than what they're letting on?
I sigh and try to get myself to sleep but my phone rings beside me.
"I thought you said you wanted your beauty sleep?" I say immediately I answer the call.
"I did?" He asks.
I immediately moved the phone from my ear to check the ID but I didn't recognize the number.
"Nick?"
"The one and only."
"Oh I'm sorry. I just got off the phone with Chloe that's why."
"It's no issue." He pauses. "How are you feeling?"
What?
What does he mean by-
Up until now, I had forgotten all about the incident that happened in this house yesterday.
I had already forgotten that I almost killed a person in this house and it's all because of Miles.
Miles took me out and made me forget all my worries.
"I'm fine now. Better actually."
"Are you sure?" He asks and I nod, but then I remember he can't see me.
"Yes. I'm sure."
"That's nice."
The line goes quiet for a moment and I had to check if the call wasn't disconnected.
"I'm sorry." He suddenly says.
"What for?" I ask him.
"I called and I chickened out."
"Chickened out?"
"I wanted to know what you were doing and what you're up to, I just wanted to talk to you, but I asked how you were doing and didn't say anything else."
"It's fine." I say. "You want to know what I'm up to?"
"Sure."
"Well, I was doing some research work, but I'm done now."
"Oh really?"
"Hm-mmm. Or at least I think I am."
"So what's it about?" He asks. "Maybe I can help you out a bit."
"Elsa." I say and the line goes quiet.
"What?" He says in a dangerously low voice after a moment.
"Can you tell me about Elsa?"
