Chapitre 13: Sometimes I wonder why too.

The only thing I could hear as I ran to the house was the fast beating of my heart.

I didn't hear the cars speeding down the road, I didn't hear the people walking and talking beside me, I didn't hear the cars horn because they were all in a rush.

What I could hear was the rapid beating of my heart because of how scared it was.

Not only did I run away from the house, I also didn't come back for a whole day

Aren't that just great?

Of course I have a good explanation, but I'm not sure she would believe it.

I mean, how would she believe me when I tell her that her husband tried to rape me, so I ran out of the house, visited my parents, fainted on the way back, was taken to the hospital by some unknown guy, and slept for 26 freaking hours?!

Yeah, I wouldn't believe myself either.

The hospital wasn't exactly near the house. So I had to run for an hour and half without stopping.

Talk of an early Sunday exercise.

I get to the front of the house and neither uncle Mark nor aunt Mary's car is outside.

I try to take steady breaths as I walk to the front door.

As my hand is about to touch the knob, the door suddenly opens.

My eyes widen and I take a few steps back.

She stops, looks at me over, and a scowl appears.

"Where were you?" She asks as she folds her arms together.

"Um.....I-"

"And why are you still in your uniform?" She interuppts me before I could answer.

"It's....I fainted."

"You fainted." She repeats. "You ran out of the house on Friday, you're just coming back on Sunday, and the best you could come up with is you fainted?" She scoffs. "Wait till my mom hears this." She walks past me.

Wait what?

Aunt Mary hasn't been home since Friday?

"Lisa wait!" She stops and turns.

"Why the hell are you calling me?"

"Please don't tell your mom." I plead.

"And why shouldn't I?"

"Please?" I plead again.

"You know what Raven?" She takes a step forward. "I like seeing you get beaten by my mom. No, scratch that. I love it. I love seeing you in pain, I love seeing you suffer." With each sentence, she takes a step forward. "And most of all, I love seeing you plead for pardon with tears in your eyes."

And I thought my aunt's crazy.

"So where's the fun if I don't tell on you hm? I don't get to see my mom pull you by your hair, I don't get to see you beg, I don't get to see you in tears. And besides, you have nothing to offer me in return since you are nothing."

"I'll do anything. Just please don't tell your mom." I really didn't want to get into trouble.

"Get on your knees."

What?

"Excuse me?"

"You said you'll do anything." She shrugs. "Then get on your knees and beg me."

My hands clutches together by side and I feel my blood boil.

I may not have parents, I may not have the privileges that Lisa and Chloe have, I may not be loved by anyone, but one thing I do know I have is my dignity.

And I'm not ready to lose that also.

"We are cousins Lisa. We're supposed to help each other, not make one feel inferior to the other."

"Don't you dare say those words again." She becomes angry. "You are nothing but a stupid wench who killed her parents and is living off mine!" She shouts. "Don't you get it?! Raven, you are not wanted here, you are not loved here, and I don't know why you didn't just die with your parents ten years ago!" She shouts and for a second, I could hear a pin drop.

"Sometimes I wonder why too." I say nothing else as I turn and walk into the house.

If she wants to tell on me, then fine. So be it.

Maybe, just maybe, she'd kill me and I'll have a chance to be with my parents.
