Chapitre 21: New Encounter

I ran, then ran some more, eventually I reached the campsite. I was looking like a disheveled mess, I was panting heavily as I looked around, there were three people sitting around a campfire staring at me bewildered. I wanted to say something, but I just couldn't form the words; a moment later I noticed some blood drops rushing down my face, I didn't even feel it.

Noticing how lax I became I quickly turned to look in the direction I was running from.

The creature was there but keeping its distance. It was just standing there making clicking sounds with its jaw. The group noticed it too and quickly became terrified. After a while more of it stalking but ultimately not approaching us, it roared at us before turning around and leaving.

Now that I began to feel safe, a sense of exhaustion overwhelmed me and I fell to the ground. I didn't want to leave myself vulnerable in front of strangers, but I had run out of strength. All I can do is hope these aren't bad people.

As I closed my eyes I heard one of them shout, "What the fuck just happened!?"

*

*swish*

"Wrong, do it again"

*swash*

*Wrong*

I was training in an empty field just outside of town, I was in my mid teens at the time.

I tossed my sword to the ground

"I don't even want to be a knight; why do I have to follow your footsteps?"

"This isn't about being a knight, it's about defending yourself; you know that as much as I"

"Well there's other ways to train besides swinging a GOD DAMN GREATSWORD"

"Watch your mouth, I wont remind you again"

"..."

"Also, never disrespect your weapon; your weapon is your life, so you should take care of it as if you were taking care of yourself."

The man in front of me was wearing full plate armor, but had his helmet removed. He was a paladin called Mike, I cant remember his full name, but after he saved me from becoming someone elses object he took me in and started raising me, that being said he has never had kids of his own and I don't think he knows how to properly raise one. That's probably why he expects me to train all the time.

Mike put on his helmet

"I'm heading out now"

"Wait, first, can we cut back on the training, or maybe use shorter swords?"

He turned his head and said, "If you cant take care of yourself, who will? You cant expect me to come to the rescue all the time. But very well, you can stop training for today."

That especially hurt. I picked up my sword and begun swinging again.

*

"SHIT"

*pant* *pant*

I sat up quickly and began assessing my surroundings. There were bandages on my arms, and I believe I felt a few on my head too. I was lying down in what looked like a tent, but before I could get up someone walked in.

"Oh thank goodness, you're finally up. You should probably ay back down, those injuries were... huh, they seem mostly healed now"

The woman in front of me had messy blonde hair, some freckles on her face, and skin that was pale; not pale enough to be a vampire or anything like that, but she didn't look like she got out much. She also seemed to be around 5'9" and wore glasses.

"Yeah... thanks for the help"

"No problem, but with that being said, us helping you isn't charity, we expect some form of compensation."

I didn't have much money to my name at the moment, so payment via currency was out of the question.

"I'm broke"

"..."

"..."

"Where were you going before you ran into us"

"I heard there was a town in this direction, so I was heading there to find some work to do"

"Good, were heading there too, it's called Calyum, after everything that happened back in the other town, we thought a change in scenery would be nice, so were setting up shop there. How about you join us and well head there together. You can pay us back in protection."

I didn't like being tied to a group; having to follow others will only lead to a conflict of ideas eventually; and even if it doesn't making friends and relationships only makes it harder to leave. I wanted to refuse, but I had a debt to settle, plus it shouldn't be for that long anyway.

"Fine, I'll join you, but only until we reach the town"

"Alright"

She reached out her arm and I grabbed it. She pulled me up and we shook hands. Now that I think about it, who is this woman?

"I didn't catch your name"

"I'm Jasmine, and may I say it's nice to meet you Madison"

How did she know my name? Anyway, this should be an interesting trip.

Yeah... its been awhile. I've been doing college and other life stuff, so sorry it took me nearly a year for a new chapter. I plan to make more now that I have some free time. I took writing classes, so I'll try to write better, also I wont be writing in that stage play type of way where it has their name before they talk. On a seperate note, 11.5k VIEWS! I know views are different than reads, but thank you all for checking out my story, I appreciate you all and hope to meet your standards in the future! One last thing, no pressure, but feel free to vote or leave comments, it may not seem like it, but they go a long way.
