"Damn! That's a lot of people." He said as he looked at the stadium around him that was packed to the brim with people.
"Yes. Though I'm a little worried about our opposition here." Scarlet David said and despite his calm and collected tone, he caught a hint of fear in it.
Not that he was in any place to complain since he was pretty sure that they were going to lose this match.
"Yeah. We must have done something really bad in our past lives to get team ASPR as our first opponent." Neptune said.
"Are they really that good?" Sage asked and all of them turned to give him a 'look'.
Sage didn't seemed bothered by the look he was receiving and continued "I mean. I heard that their team is good but they're students. Just like us. We shouldn't be so discouraged before the fight even begins."
If Sage had said that about any other team, then he would have thanked the man for trying to bring up their morale.
But against team ASPR.
"I don't think you understand just how good they are man." Neptune said, trying to explain to their teammate just how badly fucked they were. "The members of team ASPR aren't good. They are GOOD."
Sage didn't look impressed at Neptune's explanation. And to be fair, the explanation was kinda bad.
"Let me put it this way." David said with a sigh "From what I've been able to gather on them. Both Weiss and Ruby are so good that each of them can take on a weaker team on their own."
"Oh…" Sage said, only now beginning to understand how bad this fight was going to go.
And this was their first fight as well.
"No. Not oh. Let me tell you Oh." David said "The guy, Jaune. Their team leader. He's able to defeat both Ruby and Weiss on his own."
"oh." Sage said and he could literally see his friend's determination crumbling under the sheer weight of the facts.
"No. That's not Oh either." David said, a bitter smile on his face "You know Pyrrha Nikos right?"
Sage nodded.
"Well. She can defeat all of her teammates on her own."
Sage's jaw fell and his eyes turned empty. He didn't even said 'oh' which was a little disappointing to him.
At that moment, he saw four figures enter the arena from the other side and he turned to pat Sage in the back.
"It's alright Sage. Even if we lose this match, we won't be disqualified. We'll have to lose 3 out of the 5 preliminary rounds to get eliminated."
"Yes." Sage said but there was no enthusiasm in his voice. Just a resigned acceptance.
At that moment, the arena in front of them started to shift and two different platforms were brought out.
One of them was a Vacuon Desert while the other was made up of Mistral rocky mountains.
"You know, if Pyrrha had gone to the Haven Academy then it's possible that she might have been our teammate." He said.
"What are you trying to say Sun?" David asked
"Just making small talk man." He said as he let out a resigned sigh and entered the area with his teammates.
"Learn to read the mood Sun. No one is in the mood for small talk right now."
"Hey! I talk when I'm nervous alright." He said. And they were going to get slaughtered by team ASPR.
"How long do you think we'll last against them, David?" Neptune asked.
"Half a minute at best if they went all out." David said with a shrug "Maybe more if they decided to be merciful."
"Let's hope they're merciful then." He said. Because losing their first match within half a minute would suck.
"HOH HOHH!!! Welcome to another match in the Vytal Festival Tournament!" One of the commentators said and he frowned as he saw Pyrrha Nikos and Jaune climbing the rocky mountain to sit on the top while both Ruby and Weiss brandished their weapons and walked up to them.
He tuned out the Commentator to focus on the two girls in front of them.
"Hey! What's up with those two?" he asked as he pointed at the more powerful members of team ASPR.
"Oh! Pyrrha and Jaune said that they'll sit this one out." The younger girl named Ruby said cheerfully.
"Isn't this… kinda rude. I mean I know that we're probably going to lose this match but aren't you looking down too much on us?" David asked.
"Oh! It's nothing like that!" Ruby exclaimed "Jaune said that if you guys managed to defeat me and Wiess then he'll fight against you."
"Only Jaune. Not Pyrrha?" Neptune asked.
"Oh no. If Pyrrha took the field then the fight will be over too quickly. At least Jaune will take a while to defeat you." Ruby said and despite her words, he didn't felt any malice from her.
As if she was just stating the facts.
That even if they somehow did win against both Weiss and Ruby, they'll still lose against Jaune let alone Pyrrha.
"It's still quite rude of your teammates to sit out like this." David said with a frown.
"Let it go David. At least this way we'll be able to last a while. Give the public some entertainment." Neptune said.
"No." David said and they all turned to look at him.
He wanted to ask what David was talking about but then the commentator told them to get ready and started the countdown to their fight.
3… 2… 1
He charged at Weiss Schnee and used his Semblance to send two clones toward her, using them to flank her from left and right and hoping that he'll get at least one proper hit on her.
The white-haired girl looked unimpressed by his efforts and created five large white Glyphs around her.
Out of those Glyphs came out an Alpha Beowolf, a Deathstalker, a Bringel, an Ancient Nevermore, and a giant 15 feet tall Knight.
His two clones were instantly crushed by the Alpha Beowolf and Bringel and the next moment he found himself being flanked by Weiss Schnee and the Giant ethereal knight.
