Right after Noah left, she went to her own laboratory to check if she has enough supplies, so she could get a request and pick them up at the supply room.
Since she usually worked at night, she has to make sure that she has all the necessary equipment for she won't have a way to get them in the middle of the night if she doesn't have it on hand.
She was pulling her ID from her lab coat when someone pulled her to the blind corner of the corridor. The scream her throat was about to release was drowned in a huge hand that covered her mouth.
A girly voice whispered, "Tell me what Noah wants."
Instead of answering Luke, she bit his hand that he used to cover her mouth. He yelled when she sunk her teeth on the soft meat of his palm.
"Do you have biting kinks, Little Jessie?" he asked, massaging the lower part of his palm where her teeth marks were visible on his skin.
"Don't do that" She snapped at him furiously. "You almost gave me a heart attack!" She said, hitting his chest.
"I'm sorry," Luke said insincerely.
"He said he has a table waiting for us at Matsugen." she rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Matsugen?" he asked with his eyes widening, "We are talking about the Matsugen that is almost impossible to get a table?" he asked, raising his eyebrow.
He had an ex-boyfriend that was able to get them a table there, but the reservation was made six months in advance! While Noah got a table there waiting for him and Jess.
"How did he get a table in that restaurant? Isn't he just a mere employee of ANAT and Pharma Co?" he asked, puzzled.
"Don't ask me." Jess averted Luke's questioning look. She couldn't wait for her friend to get back to her with Noah's information, because just like Luke, she is curious as hell about who Noah Tiefenbacher really is. "Ask Noah if you want to know."
"So, when are you going to have dinner?" he grinned at her. "I want to see Noah's face when he gets to see the other you."
The everyday Jess is just like any other university student you'll see on campus. She is mostly in her white lab coat. Her hair is usually tied in a low bun or in a ponytail. However, he saw her on some occasions when she fixes herself. And, she could make any Hollywood actress looks ugly.
"I accepted his invitation but I haven't told him when." When she saw Luke lifted his eyebrow in an inquiring manner, she said, "I am busy!"
"I see. You are playing run after my pretty ass with Noah," he chuckled in delight.
"Shut it! I am really busy," she scoffed. "Aren't you busy? You still have time to gossip with me?" she sarcastically asked Luke who won't stop grinning like an idiot. This bastard really finds her sex life or lack thereof a great source of enjoyment.
"I still couldn't wrap in my head how Noah could afford to have a reservation at Matsugen," he said, caressing the three days stubble on his chin. "Do you think there is something with Noah more than what he is saying he is?"
"Focus on your experiment. We should get hired at ANAT and Pharma Co for they are paying their employees enough to get a table at an expensive restaurant," she said as she walked away from him.
She needed to get away from Luke because he's starting to ask her questions she's not ready to answer.
"It's not just having money to pay, you know!" he said in a loud voice to Jess before she disappeared in the corridor corner. "You can't get a table in that restaurant even if you have the money," he mumbled under his breath.
He has questions but has no way to answer them. And Jess was right, he needed to focus on his experiment. He scratched the stubble on his jaw. He badly wanted to shave them for it irked him how the girls on his team starting to give him the look of thirst.
He understood where the thirst was coming from. They are all busy in the lab there is no time to play. Just like those women, he is also thirsty. He grimaced as he returned to the laboratory.
Meanwhile, Jess escaped Luke's suspicion of Noah as she went to her own laboratory. When she entered the lab, all of the members of her team were in a circle, deep in discussion over something. She was startled when all of them stop talking and stared at her strangely.
'What's happening?' she wondered. "Hello," she smiled amicably to them, yet they all averted their eyes and returned to their workstations while murmuring the usual greeting under their breath. Except for one classmate, -- Alice. She threw her a disgusted look.
Her eyebrows furrowed. She knew for a fact that Alice never liked her. She made sure she knew since the start of the school year. However, this was the first time that she blatantly showed her dislike towards her.
She quietly went to her own workstation fully aware of the cold atmosphere in the lab. Alice and her friend kept on murmuring and glancing in her direction. She is starting to get really pissed.
"Do we have a problem?" she asked in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear. She really hated this kind of people who would gossip behind other people's backs. The majority of the time, she let it go. However, today she doesn't feel like ignoring them.
Alice and the other girl all of a sudden stopped with their nonsensical mumbling and separated from each other.
'What a bunch of cowards!' She clicked her tongue and went back to the reason why she came to the lab. She finished her task in no time, and locked her workstation drawers, and was about to go out of the lab when one of her teammates approached her.
He is wearing thick eyeglasses. She slightly panicked for she forgot his name.
"Jess, can I have a talk with you?"
She just stared at him with her eyes squinted at his face trying to remember his name.
"Oliver." A soft chuckle came from his lips.
"Huh?" she blinked her eyes in surprise.
"My name is Oliver," he said, but his eyes don't show any indication of annoyance that she didn't know his name even though they have been working for almost a semester on the same project.
"Oh yes, Oliver." she smiled apologetically at him. "How can I help you?" she asked embarrassed that she got caught not knowing his name.
"I have some questions, can we talk outside?"
