Chapitre 43: A Promise
"No, I won't be teaching him." said Crocus as the crew as weren't shocked at his refusal since no one would be generous enough to give away their techniques when there is nothing for them to gain. But Crocus continued, "I won't be teaching him because I'm lazy." the crew were shocked at his reason and were about to shout at him for his terrible reason but Crocus was still not finished as he said "Since you all wouldn't be staying here for long, I can't teach him everything as the ship and all of you would be digested. So I'll just give him my journal with all of my experiences on it, but I won't be giving it for free." the crew were nervous as the experience and the notes of arguably one of the best doctors in history would be a priceless treasure for any doctor in the world. The price they would be paying might be something they cannot acquire at the moment.
Alex thought about it and asked because he was also curious about Crocus' notes "Alright old man, name your price." the old man smiled mysteriously and said "I want you to save this whale from killing itself." the crew were shocked and thought that this was too easy and were also curious as to why the whale would kill itself.
"You might be wondering why this whale would be killing itself, right? It is because of the scars on his head as he was constantly tackling Reverse Mountain." the crew nodded and Crocus continued, "This is because he thought that his friends were still alive. But in reality, they died somewhere in the Grandline and were not coming back. Laboon refuses to listen to me and still believes that they're still alive and were just in the West Blue waiting for him, so he tackles the Red Line hoping it would break so that he could reunite with them as he was with them ever since he was a baby. I want him to stop because he might die from tackling it too much and I don't want that to happen." the crew were saddened by the story of Laboon and Alex said "Alright old man, we will do everything we can to stop Laboon from dying." Crocus smiled at this and said "Just exit through that door and try to stop him from killing himself. I guess." the crew nodded and welcomed Crocus on the ship as they were going out of Laboon, not questioning why there was an exit inside of a whale, and trying to stop it from killing itself.
When they got out of the whale, they immediately sprung into action as they blocked the whale from tackling the Red Line. They failed to do so as they all were flung away by Laboon's charges. Alex saw his crew getting hammered by Laboon and decides to take matters into his own hands as he uses his Devil Fruit powers to get his crew away from the both of them and then tries to block Laboon from hitting the Red Line. Alex then punches Laboon but does nothing, but then gets pushed away by Laboon's hits as he hits the lighthouse. "You're one stubborn whale Laboon." said Alex as he again charges at the whale but then gets flung away again. Laboon was getting angry and decided to give it his all and end it, but then heard Alex saying as he stood up while wearing his hat "Oy Laboon! I'll be your new friend! So let's stop fighting!" Laboon stops for a second before trying to nod as if saying he wants Alex to continue what he was saying. "I'm asking you to be my friend because I saw how lonely you were and I wanted to cheer you up buddy. So what do you say buddy? Wanna be my friend?" said Alex with a smile as Laboon was contemplating on whether or not he would accept it because he thought of his old friends. In the end, Laboon accepted it and Alex said "Now that you're my friend, don't tackle the Red Line anymore because I don't want my friends getting hurt. And after I sail and become Pirate King, I will look for you and we'll have a party together! Okay Laboon?" Laboon was happy and was tearing up and Alex put his jolly roger on Laboon's scars so that Laboon keeps his promise of not tackling the Red Line anymore.
Crocus smiled at their interaction and went to Alex's crew and gave his notebook to Law as he said "Make sure to learn everything here and add something in the future if you want. I'm leaving my legacy to you as I'm confident that you'll become the doctor of the next Pirate King." Crocus said as he was looking at Law and then at Alex, who was with Laboon, as he said the last sentence. Law was conflicted and said "But I'm only a temporary member of his crew, why would you say that I'm already part of his crew?" Crocus just smiled and said "Aren't you already part of his crew? There is no such thing as a temporary crew member. The moment you join the crew, you feel a connection to it and that is why you join the crew. Everything happens for a reason Law, we all meet the people we are destined to meet in our lives. So tell me Law, do you still think you're just a 'temporary member' or are you a part of the crew?" after listening to Crocus' advice Law's eyes were opened as he realized that he was already part of the crew without really knowing it. He was always thinking that he was an outcast because he was a 'temporary' member but from what Crocus said his captain already treated him as his own crew member.
After being silent for a while Law said "Yeah I was already part of his crew but I was shackled by my own thoughts and prevented myself from fitting in the crew. Thank you for helping me realize this Dr. Crocus, and I promise you that I, Trafalgar D. Water Law, will become the best doctor in history and be the next Pirate King's doctor." Crocus was surprised that he was a 'D' but smiled and patted his shoulder as he said "I know you will, and I will be waiting for the day that happens." then he goes to check up on the other crew members that were a bit shaken up by their altercation against Laboon.
After they fixed Laboon's problems and promised Laboon that they would be back for him, Alex and his crew said goodbye to Crocus and Laboon. They waved goodbye as Crocus waved back while Laboon just made whale sounds. Alex and his crew continued their journey to sail to Laugh Tale and to the end of the Grandline.

ImStar0710 My novel will still follow the canon timeline, but since my OCs would be added there are more things that would change in the One Piece World. This novel is just a product of my ideas that I got while I was reading about One Piece.
