Chapitre 36: 36. Bai Xing

RuQian entered the children's park, she had changed into some ballerinas as she figured she would not be able to walk comfortably, wearing her heels in a park otherwise.

Bai Xing, a man in his early thirties was a civil lawyer who came from a very normal family, whose parents had worked very hard to provide him for his studies. Bai Xing studied in a local college where he was a top student. He had to juggle between his part time jobs and his studies. The money he earned was for his food and other necessities, he received scholarship for his education based on his top grades.

He did not want his parents to work hard because of him, so he worked part time jobs. He would have made it into a top law firm but his father passed away in an accident and seeing as his mother did not want to move from the countryside, he had to stay with her and find some miscellaneous jobs there.

After a few years, when he was able to bring his mother back, he was not able to find work in the top law firms so he decided to work separately. He took a loan from some loan sharks and bought a small office near his two bedroom apartment.

His life had gone well for a few years, he had some regular clients, he got married to his childhood friend from the countryside, they started a family and were happy but life was never easy, his mother had been diagnosed with cancer a few years back and all his savings, his earnings had gone into her treatments.

He was lucky to have met the loan sharks, who were not wicked, the loan sharks had helped him out by reducing the interest rate and not urging him to pay the money. The loan shark had been understanding of Bai Xing's situation and helped him out many times whenever he needed money.

The only thing he asked in return was to pay the money when he could and also help him if he ever needed a lawyer. The loan shark's mother had passed away due to cancer and he respected Bai Xing as he took care of his mother instead of some children who left their parents when in tough situations.

Bai Xing had a four year old daughter who had to be sent to school any time soon but they did not have the money to send her to a kindergarten. All the money they had was going into his mother's hospital bills.

RuQian had asked for Bai Xing to meet with her to discuss work but she could not go to his office, it was too far and she also first wanted to talk to him in a place where she would feel comforted after seeing the ugly faces of some people in the meeting.

She would have to visit his office and his house to see their living conditions. RuQian searched for his number and gave him a call, she found out he was near the swing set. RuQian saw a few kids playing near the swings in the sandbox, a few mothers gossiping, a man with a beard sitting on a bench.

She looked around but could still not find him anywhere, so gave him a call again. This time she could hear a phone ringing in the hands of the man seated on the bench and she heard his voice when he picked up the call.

RuQian went up to the man and studied him, Bai Xing was a slightly tanned man who looked ten years older than he actually was, donning crumpled clothes, a lean body and a beard not even trimmed. If RuQian was to describe him in one word it would be haggard.

The Bai Xing she remembered in her previous life was completely different from the man in front of her. Bai Xing was an energetic man who looked as if he was in his late twenties, always in a neat suit, lean but a healthy body and a very neatly trimmed beard. The man in front of her was unrecognisable. But she had seen his current bank balance and if he was not haggard, now that would be surprising.

Bai Xing's eyes were trained on a small girl laughing, playing in the sandbox trying to make a sandcastle with some other kids. RuQian figured she was his daughter, since RuQian had set the meeting location to be a park, Bai Xing must have brought his daughter.

RuQian went and sat beside Bai Xing on the bench but he was oblivious to her, his concentration on his daughter. RuQian glanced at the smiling girl, she was really pretty and looked so cute playing with the sand in her short, stubby hands. RuQian smiled when the girl glanced at her father and saw a pretty woman beside him.

The girl's eyes lit up, she abandoned her castle and ran towards her father. She glanced at RuQian, pointed her finger at her and said, "Pwettyy Pincesss.." RuQian smiled at the girl whose eyes lit up even more finding a smiling RuQian even prettier.

That was when Bai Xing realised there was someone beside him. He turned to apologise for his daughter's behaviour when he was awestruck. The woman beside him was really very beautiful, he stared at her but then realised how rude he was being and cleared his throat.

"I am sorry miss. My daughter is a fan of the princess movies. Please don't mind her." Bai Xing said apologetically to RuQian.

"It's alright Mr Bai, I don't mind." RuQian's smile disappeared when she turned towards Bai Xing but he could see she was not angry. Maybe this woman did not like smiling a lot, but she did smile at his daughter then why not him. 'Maybe because you are dressed like a beggar, you idiot.' He thought to himself but then he realised the woman had said his name.

'How does she know my name? Was it her who called me here?' Bai Xing thought this was possible as her voice did seem similar. "Miss RuQian?" He asked her a little doubtfully.

RuQian turned her eyes towards the little girl in his arms, gave a slight smile, glanced at Bai Xing from the corner of her eyes and said, "Yes, Mr Bai. Shall we discuss work now?"

Bai Xing understood her meaning, told his daughter to go play and then turned his work mode on. "Miss RuQian, what would you like my help with?" RuQian had only said she would discuss work on the phone and even now but she had never told him anything about the work. He badly needed money so he immediately came here the next day.

"Mr Bai, I would like to hire you as my lawyer." RuQian answered with a light tone while she glanced at the laughing girl. No wonder people liked kids, she was feeling so much better just looking at the girl's smiling face.

"Uhh... Miss RuQian could you elaborate? I need to know the specifics of the case." Bai Xing tried to speak in a respectable tone. RuQian's clothes or even the way she carried herself were proof enough for him to know she was rich. He did not want to offend her in anyway. Most rich members were easily angered and he did not want to take the risk by offending a rich person.

"You will be hired as my personal lawyer, Mr Bai, not for a single case, you will take care of all my legal matters." RuQian said with a smirk, which Bai Xing did not see.

"Wha...What!?" Bai Xing stared dumbfounded with wide eyes at RuQian.

L’AVIS DES CRÉATEURS

RuQian did not test Bai Xing the way she did Amy.

Any guesses why?
