Chapitre 16: Breakthrough and Gene Perks
"Swushhhhh"
Manetric Headbutt hit head-on and Sandile flew straight back and with a bang he got stuck to the side of the hill's wall.
I ran towards him hurriedly, the level difference is too high and at this point hitting Manetric once would be an achievement.
"Sandile are you ok? I told you not to underestimate and now look at your sorry ass, is this how you become the strongest Pokemon? Retract your ego and see what's in the front, take this as a good lesson. Until now, you were humiliated by the only two types you think are useless, so clear your foggy mind and get ready," I lectured Sandile while he was struggling to get out, he got stuck to the wall and I started pulling him out of it.
After a minute struggle, I got him out. We looked straight at Manetric in embarrassment.
"Technically we did not lose as Sandile did not faint and there were no boundaries set before the start of the battle," I said shamelessly.
[It's ok kid, being shameless is also a perk. I can understand that you are still a rookie so I will change the rules for you. It will be my loss if that sandile can hit me once, so let's continue.], he said.
I immediately yelled in my mind at Sandile as I did not give time for Manectric to make a move,
[Sandile go underground, come out only when I say to. The only way we can hit is by stealth], I said to sandile telepathically.
Sandile did not give me an answer, he was angry at himself for getting humiliated so he just hid underground. I think he wanted to make a statement here with action and that's good.
[Kid it would have been a nice move if it was on someone else but I am patient pokemon so I will wait till he comes out. Let's see how long will he stay there.], Manectric said with disdain.
I am sure he doesn't like my playing style. King will never hide or do sneak attacks so it's obvious that he doesn't like this plan but who cares. I am no King.
Manectric was waiting patiently, Sandile was digging the whole area under the battleground. We never had a chance to try this strategy but now is the time for that.
I am planning to use Sand tomb and Dig as a combo moveset to turn the whole field into a desert-like environment.
Manectric started using Rain Dance, The king knows that Sandile is a ground type and would be uncomfortable with rain. Sadly, he did know about Sandile being resistant with water, I mean at least rain doesn't hurt him much.
"Mr King, that's a wrong move and thanks for the rain now," I said.
[What do you mean by that kid?], he asked confused.
I did not reply and was waiting for Sandile to finish his work. The rain started pouring down, it was more of a heavy drizzle than rain.
This makes it even easier to dig as the ground turned a bit softer with the rain. After five minutes, Sandile gave me a signal through telepathy.
[Bro it's done, we can start the real battle now.]
[Sandile, use dig from behind. Do it as quietly as possible] I said.
Manectric was idling patiently, suddenly he turned vigilant as he could hear the vibrations underground. His teeth shined white and sandile lunged from the ground to hit on Manectrics torso.
What we both did not expect was that Manectric flexibly bent his head under his front legs to snatch Sandile between his teeth. His bite did significant damage as I can see Sandile wailing,
"Sandile Dile Sandilllllleeeee"
Manectric threw him away like a rag doll. Sandile drifted towards my side under the slippery state of wet ground. He was limping just from a bite attack, this just shows the difference between a Beginner and an advanced Pokemon.
He was already tired from all the digging but I hope it will come in handy. I can clearly see the ground being softer than usual so I just need to wait for the right moment.
"Sandile use dig , use the same tactic again."
[Are you sure that will work? this time I will surely finish him], Manectric smirked at me with a mocking tone.
I stayed silent, what I want is for the Manectric to move around but he is not taking a single step right now.
[Sandile, use Rest and then spam Hone claws after you wake up. Manectric has no moves to pull you out of the ground so don't worry.], I said.
Hone Claws has one advantage, that is accuracy. It will be easier for Sandile to hit Manectric but Sandile can only use Hone Claws twice. Using Rest will consume all his energy and after that Hone Claws will make his state worse but this is the only way I get a chance to score.
[Kid, I am usually patient but this is getting too one-sided and boring. I don't know what you guys are planning but the result would still be the same.], he said.
Ten more minutes passed and the rain continued. Manectric was slowly getting impatient so he unhurriedly started walking around smelling for the scent.
I can see the paws of Manectric getting imprinted more heavily as he was walking.
[Sandile it's time, if you are ready then make the terrain below Manectric softer using sand tomb and reveal your location to him.], I said.
[Sure bro, I can't hold it anymore. I can't feel my hind legs and I think I will faint anytime soon. I can at max do two attacks before I faint in exhaustion.]
I nodded at that in understanding. Manectric found the scent of Sandile and turned towards me with a smile.
[It's game over young man, turning the terrain softer means, even I can easily dig through right?], he said that as he lifted his forefeet high like a horse and stomped it down.
"Sandile, dodge that and use sand tomb right below him."
There is no way he can escape, the stronger the force over a sand tomb the faster you sink. The ground is already soft with all the digging and rain, so this is my chance.
Sandile used sand tomb and jumped out from behind with his tail surrounded by water. Manectrics legs sunk deep and his face hit the ground as his back was wide open. The King had no way to dodge even with his superior speed, although he can easily get out of the sand in a second and retaliate, a second was all I needed. (I mean Sandile, not me)
Sandile's battle sense is too good, instead of using dig, he summoned the water around to boost his aqua tail as soon as he emerged, the falling rain has made it very easy to achieve the effect needed.
This time Sandile's whole body was shining as the water surrounded his tail like a huge cone, he hit the Manectric with Hone claw boosted massive Aqua tail. I thought it was an evolution but quickly suppressed the thought as Sandile fainted after he hit Manectric with all the power he has got.
I think that's the sign of a breakthrough. I ran towards him and quickly returned him with his Pokeball.
"Mr King, are you Ok?", I asked him. Although it looked like a tone of concern, I was asking that with pride. Manectric legs were shaking a bit due to the heavy impact but he seemed alright.
[I am fine, it was a good plan but took everything you had to land a hit. Still, a loss is a loss so I admit defeat and I will allow you to be my daughter's trainer. Keep in mind that this was just a mock battle, in the real wild battle, Pokemon will pounce on the trainer first. It will just ignore the Pokemon underground and direct its attack towards you.], he said giving his inputs.
" I understand Mr King but I had no other option. You were lightning-fast and there was no way that my Sandile can land a hit without using underhanded methods." I said in a softer tone.
[Anyway, as promised I will tell you about Royal gene. Keep in mind not to leak the info anywhere, mainly poachers should never hear about it as they will go to any means to steal the Pokemon.]
"I understand and I promise you that I will never give away the info."
[Alright, Royal Gene Pokemon are as rare as a legendary King Gene. Although not as great as King gene Pokemon, Royal gene has its perks. Every hundred years, a pokemon with King Gene is born, it gives the Pokemon authority over its species. A King Gene Pokemon has superior strength, size and defence, it can even order it's species to suicide. The species won't have any resistance against the King even if the Pokemon is some other trainer's. Absolute Control over its species is the perk, luckily King Gene Pokemon have superior intelligence so they don't abuse the power."
Manectric was giving me the info that even libraries don't have. He waited for me to nod and then started continuing,
[ When it comes to Royal Gene, it's a completely different perk. A Royal Gene can only come from the family of a King Gene, it's only a possibility but chances are higher for the King gene bloodline to have a Royal Gene as an offspring. Royal gene Pokemon have an unusual size, they can be big or even smaller sometimes. They have superior vitality and speed, which is the opposite of King Gene(HP and Speed).]
I interrupted him in curiosity before he went further,
"So a King Gene has better Attack, Special Attack, Defence and Special Defence?"
He nodded at my question and started proceeding with his lessons,
[Royal Genes main perk is called 'No barriers'. A normal Pokemon has strength barriers which they need to overcome like how your Sandile did after the battle. It's easier to break a barrier at the start, as you reach an Elite level it will be impossible sometimes. Even a Pokemon with high potential needs endless battles and a decade to break through from a King to Champion level. 'No Barriers' perk ignores all the barriers, some people prefer Royal Gene over King gene because of this.]
I was shocked by the information I got, I already knew how tough it was to break the barriers. Sandile with such high potential had to battle an Advanced level pokemon and get thrashed by a Champion level Pokemon to cross his first barrier. Normally with time, Sandile can easily break it but I would have waited at least two weeks if not for today's battle.
I should not leak this info or else I am surely dead. I told my thanks to Manectric and asked him for permission to take Electrike and leave early. He was a bit sad to part ways with his daughter but he turned ecstatic after I assured him about meeting his father in Hoenn.

Electrike's mother gave quite the beating to her, I could not stop laughing looking at Electrike's state. After knowing what happened between us, The mother Manectric gave a deadly look towards the King. She did not like the idea of taking Electrike away but had to give up after King Manectric's insistence.
Sandile, Joltik and I were fed till our belly's burst, we were ready to say goodbye so King Manectric arranged something like a banquet as a parting gift. It was already evening by the time everything was over and we said our goodbyes.
Electrike was walking beside me while Joltik stayed on my head. Sandile is taking a good rest today, I did not want to overexert him. He was fully fit for a battle now but just in case I kept him inside. Electrike has a great sense for danger so it was alright. Her mother thrashed her well before we parted to make her gain some experience and it was a huge benefit for me.
I plan to search for Gregory and meet him before tomorrow evening. If he is dead then there's no helping it but my senses are signalling me that he is alive. I already have two fixed Pokemon and I need to give Joltik to him or else joltik will stay behind as we can only catch two pokemon. Joltik got a lot of benefits today as she absorbed the electrical energy like a maniac, the whole place near the neat was like a partial electric terrain.
It's been six days since the trial started, but to me, it feels like a month. Too many things occurred in the last seven days and I was happy with my progress.
I scanned all my pokemon as I walked forward.

Electrike improved a level, Joltik was past his weak stage and was ready to start fighting. Sandile gave me a surprise with his new move 'Power trip', it works well with Hone Claws. He forgot Bite after learning it but I guess it's fine.
From today Sandile takes the back seat as there are not much pokemon that can threaten him, Electrike has to battle all the wild Pokemon we encounter until the trial gets over.
I walked forward planning for Electrike's training.....
